Special leave awarded by N.C. General Assembly now available

The N.C. General Assembly recently awarded a one-time additional five days of Special Annual Leave Bonus to eligible leave-earning employees in the state effective July 1, 2018. Those working less than 12 months and those in part-time positions will earn a pro-rated amount of time.

Eligible employees will receive an email notification from the Office of Human Resources and will see the balance reflected in Kronos, the University’s timekeeping system, as of Aug. 1, 2018, retroactive to July 1. It is listed as BONSAL.  

Gallo needs shared leave

Jorge Gallo with the Police and Public Safety Department needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through Aug. 10.

To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements and participant forms in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or in the literature racks outside of the Benefits Office, King Building, Room 207. Corpening sworn in as Staff Council chair

ITS staff member Celeste Corpening is chair of the UNC Charlotte Staff Council for the 2018-19 academic year. Tina Dadio from the Office of Legal Affairs recently administered the oath of office at the council’s annual summer retreat.

Corpening is nearing 20 years of service to the University. In her ITS role, she supports the imaging system through project management, technical support, eForm design, web design and technical documentation.

West Deck maintenance scheduled

Parking space lines in the West Deck will be repainted between Monday, July 30, and Thursday, Aug. 2. The deck will remain open, but users should expect rotating entrance and space closures.

The north entrance will be closed July 30, and the south entrance will be closed on July 31.

Construction barricades and equipment will be on site; exercise caution when approaching work areas.

Faculty/staff tickets to football game against App State now on sale

Charlotte 49ers football is offering faculty and staff members the chance to purchase up to four tickets to the game against Appalachian State University on Saturday, Sept. 8.

To purchase tickets, call 704-687-4949 or 704-687-4849. All tickets will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, July 31.

Retirement reception scheduled for Phil Jones

Phil Jones, associate vice chancellor for facilities management, will retire Friday, Aug. 31, after nearly 18 years of service.

A retirement reception in his honor will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 17, in the third floor salons of the James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

Streamlined orientation experience greets new employees

New UNC Charlotte employees are experiencing a novel, online orientation process. The traditional two-day training has been replaced with a half-day in-person session focused on welcoming new employees, providing a campus tour and introducing them to the online onboarding course in Canvas. University representatives are on hand to provide support in benefits selections. This new model went into effect July 11.

SACVM’s Bertram Spence has died

Bertram Spence, 57, a building environmental technician with Student Activity Center and Venue Management (SACVM) in the Division of Student Affairs died on Monday, July 16, at the Duke Medical Pavilion in Durham, North Carolina.

Spence joined the University in March 2015 and was a member of the third-shift team in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

Intermittent lane closures scheduled along Alumni Way

Beginning at 7 a.m., Monday, July 23, through 4 p.m., Monday, July 30, there will be intermittent lane closures along Alumni Way to repair curbs and pavement associated with the construction of the new Admissions and Visitors Center.

Expect barricades and construction personnel and equipment in the area; flaggers will assist with traffic flow. Anticipate travel delays during working hours.

Remember to exercise caution when approaching construction areas.
