This past fall, Karen Cox, professor of history, was interviewed for the story “How Southern socialites rewrote Civil War history,” published on the Vox website.

As part of the story, Cox was featured in a roughly seven-minute video that outlined how the United Daughters of the Confederacy altered the South’s memory of the Civil War. Since the video was posted to the Vox YouTube site in October 2017, it has recorded 1,004,685 views and counting.

The Graduate Student Funding Task Force recently completed a series of campus forums to solicit information on graduate student support. 

The task force also needs help to shape the future of graduate funding. Students, faculty or staff are encouraged to submit their ideas, issues, challenges, suggestions and possible solutions via email to fundingtaskforce@uncc.edu by Thursday, Feb. 1.

Ventureprise Inc. is now accepting applications from UNC Charlotte teams for the spring 2018 I-Corps cohort. The program, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), helps participants bridge academic and entrepreneurial knowledge.

Kathryn Horne, previously the director of university space management and utilization, has been appointed director of facilities planning. She joined UNC Charlotte’s Facilities Management Department in 2015.

In her new role, Horne will guide the development of the campus in accordance with UNC Charlotte’s current Master Plan. She will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive capital construction plans in collaboration with other divisions of the University. 

It is the responsibility of all students, faculty, and staff to conduct themselves in a way that contributes to an environment free of illegal drug use and abuse of alcohol.

Illegal or abusive use of drugs or alcohol by members of the University community adversely affects the educational environment and interferes with achievement of personal, social and educational goals.

The Human Resources Department is accepting nominations for the 2018 Staff Employee of the Year awards. This program honors UNC Charlotte staff members who have contributed exemplary service beyond the normal parameters of their job. Any permanent employee of UNC Charlotte can submit a nomination and are encouraged to do so.

Individuals can be nominated in any one of five categories:

Ted Elling, associate vice chancellor for student affairs for research and systems development, received the 2017 Champion Award from Campus Labs for “utilizing data to influence a change in student success initiatives across the institution and inspiring a generation of assessment professionals.”

Education Day is Thursday, Jan. 4, and involves public school students attending the Charlotte 49ers women’s basketball game against Southern Mississippi. The contest tips off at 11:30 a.m.

To accommodate the safe loading/unloading of approximately 100 buses, Craver Road will be closed from Library Lane to Cameron Boulevard between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Expect delays on Van Landingham and Mary Alexander Roads between noon and 3 p.m.

Effective Jan. 3, there is a new student tab in My UNC Charlotte. This more personalized tab compiles data from Banner, Canvas and Gmail onto one screen, which means fewer clicks for students to view information.

To see this new tab, go to my.charlotte.edu and click “Student-New.” This dashboard view includes:
