Charlotte accepts bid to Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl

The Charlotte 49ers, who rode a five-game win streak to bowl eligibility, have accepted an invitation to compete in the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl in the program’s first-ever bowl appearance.

Tryon Street entrance dedicated in honor of Peggy and Joe Popp

UNC Charlotte’s entrance to campus off N. Tryon Street is now known as Popp Gate. The Institute Circle egress, which underwent enhancements to mirror Dickson Gate, the University’s main entrance off University City Boulevard, was dedicated Saturday, Nov. 23, in honor of Peggy and Coach Joe Popp, the parents of Karen Popp ’80, a longtime University supporter.

University conducting NinerAlert test Nov. 27

The Office of Emergency Management and the Police and Public Safety Department will conduct a full test of the NinerAlert system from approximately 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 27. All methods of alert notification will be used. This includes text messaging, email, Alertus technology (on-campus screen takeover), LiveSafe and social media. The test message will read: NinerAlert: This is a test of the UNC Charlotte Emergency Alert System. This is only a test.

Saturday was Senior Day, and despite a near-constant rain, the Charlotte 49ers prevailed against Marshall University. The 24-13 victory made for the greatest day in Charlotte 49ers football history as the team reached bowl eligibility for the first time and achieved a school-record six wins.

Wind Ensemble to perform
