Culinary storyteller Jet Tila to visit campus

Jet Tila, a celebrated chef and restaurateur, will visit campus Wednesday, March 20, for a series of events. The author of “101 Asian Dishes You Need to Cook Before You Die,” Tila has been a guest on NPR, the CBS Early Show and Food Network’s Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen and Iron Chef America.

UNC Charlotte hosts Charlotte regional legislators

More than 30 legislators from the Charlotte region attended a recent dinner hosted by Chancellor Philip L. Dubois and the UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees in Raleigh, North Carolina.

University to conduct NinerAlerts test Friday, March 8

The Office of Emergency Management and the Police and Public Safety Department will conduct a full test of the NinerAlert system from approximately 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, March 8. All methods of alert notification will be used. This includes text messaging, email, Alertus technology (on-campus screen takeover), LiveSafe and social media.

The test message will read:  

NinerAlert: This is a test of the UNC Charlotte Emergency Alert System. This is only a test.

Sigma Tau Delta’s crowdfunding effort to support convention trip

Several members of UNC Charlotte’s Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society, will present creative pieces and participate in a special discussion during the 2019 Sigma Tau Delta International Convention, scheduled for March 27-30 in St. Louis, Missouri.

The University chapter is crowdfunding to raise $3,000 to pay for the registration, travel and accommodations for eight members to attend the convention. This year’s theme is “Work In Progress.”

Woodiel joins Charlotte 49ers football coaching staff

Cody Woodiel has been hired as the Charlotte 49ers football tight ends coach. He was an offensive graduate assistant at the University of Oregon for the past two years and has seven years of coaching experience.

Prior to Oregon, the Troy University alumnus coached at Itawamba Community College in Mississippi and at his alma mater. Woodiel, who played tackle, guard and tight end in college, has coached with the offensive line at each of his stops.

Senators Berger and Bishop host educational roundtable at UNC Charlotte

Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) and Sen. Dan Bishop (R-Mecklenburg) recently hosted an education roundtable at UNC Charlotte with local members of the education community and industry partners.

Finding love in the Cone University Center

This February, UNC Charlotte is asking alums to share their love stories of how they met their significant others as well as what they love about the University. Stories shared on social media, using #iLOVEUNCC qualify to win exclusive 49er swag, and alums are encouraged to make a gift to support programs, scholarships or departments at LOVE.UNCC.EDU.

Social justice advocate to give public presentations

Kathy Obear, founder of the Center for Transformation and Change, will visit campus Wednesday and Thursday, March 13-14, to deliver two public presentations.

At 6 p.m., March 13, Obear will address “Recognizing and Engaging Dynamics of Race and Racism: Our Role and Responsibility as White Change Agents.” On March 14, at 1:30 p.m., she will present “Recognizing and Responding to Microaggressions on Campus.” Both talks will be in the Popp Martin Student Union Movie Theater.

Celebrate the 2019 Alumni Award recipients

The UNC Charlotte Alumni Association will hold its 2019 Alumni Awards Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, April 5, at The Westin Charlotte.
