Charlotte 49ers to institute pilot program for alcohol sales
The Charlotte 49ers will start a pilot program that will allow the sale of alcohol on game days at Jerry Richardson Stadium during the 2019 season. Fan behavior and alcohol-related incidents will be closely monitored to ensure that the overall fan experience is not diminished due to excessive drinking. Pilot program conditions are:

“We Are All Niners: Recovery, Remembrance and Resurgence” was the title of Chancellor Philip L. Dubois’ address at University Convocation, Thursday, Aug. 15.

City leaders inspire faculty and staff toward community and civic engagement
UNC Charlotte’s connection to the city of Charlotte’s rich history and vast community resources are helping new faculty and senior staff engage with the Queen City. Developed in response to feedback from new employees seeking a deeper connection to the city, Community Engagement Orientation is held annually in August and is designed to introduce University newcomers of less than a year to the area while underscoring its symbiotic relationship with UNC Charlotte.

Undergraduate Admissions Center named for Lucius Gage
UNC Charlotte dedicated its newest building, the Lucius G. Gage Jr. Undergraduate Admissions Center, during a campus ceremony Wednesday, Aug 14.

Gold Rush ushers in new academic year
Each August, UNC Charlotte kicks off the academic year by welcoming new and returning students to campus with a week of programming called Gold Rush (formerly Week of Welcome). Gold Rush begins Friday, Aug. 16, with the Union Takeover at 7 p.m. and will run through Sunday, Aug. 25, with the National Pan-Hellenic Council Yard Show.

Faculty & Friends Concert Series starts Aug. 26
The Department of Music will present Assistant Professor of Trumpet Eric Millard and pianist Erin Palmer in the first Faculty & Friends Concert of the 2019-20 season. The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 26, in the Rowe Recital Hall.The lively program, titled “Carnaval,” will feature a wide range of music, from the Concerto in E-flat by the 19th century opera composer Vincenzo Bellini, to the Irish ballad, “’Tis the Last Rose of Summer.”

UNC Charlotte among first Student Success Innovation Lab grantees
Helping students complete their undergraduate degrees in a timely manner is important to UNC Charlotte and the entire UNC System. The University recently received a financial award to implement “Funds to Finish?” as part of the inaugural Student Success Innovation Lab (SSIL) grant competition.
