Botanical Gardens workshop to focus on ‘A Green and Healthy New Year’
Register to attend “A Green and Healthy New Year: Makers Workshop for Mind, Body and Soul” scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 5, at the McMillan Greenhouse.
The UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens is sponsoring this event in which attendees can learn to use plants and botanical preparations to promote healthy minds, bodies, souls and homes.
First-team selection Highsmith highlights Charlotte’s all-C-USA honorees
Eight Charlotte 49ers have earned 2018 all-Conference USA honors. RS-junior defensive end Alex Highsmith grabbed first team all-C-USA honors, while junior running back Benny LeMay, redshirt senior offensive lineman Nate Davis, redshirt senior linebacker Juwan Foggie and freshman kicker Jonathan Cruz were named to the second team. Redshirt senior tight end Chris Phillips, redshirt junior defensive end Tyriq Harris and junior defensive back Ben DeLuca received honorable mention.
The 49ers also had four players named to the 2018 C-USA all-Freshman Team.
Charlotte 49ers name Will Healy head football coach
Will Healy, an Eddie Robinson Award winner as the National FCS Coach of the Year, has been selected as the head football coach for the Charlotte 49ers. Healy, who has coached at Austin Peay State University for the last three years, is known for infusing energy and enthusiasm in his program, engineering one of the greatest turnarounds in college football history.
Engineering team wins ASPE Student Challenge
A team of mechanical engineering graduate students from UNC Charlotte’s precision engineering program won the student challenge competition at the American Society for Precision Engineering’s (ASPE) 33rd annual conference in Las Vegas.
Executive Education program wins national award
The Advanced Management Program for Legal Executives, a custom executive education program designed by the Association of Corporate Counsel Charlotte Chapter and UNC Charlotte Executive Education, has won an Outstanding Achievement Award for “Best Partnership Program” from the Association of Corporate Counsel.
Charlotte 49ers DE Tyriq Harris named to C-USA all-Academic Football Team
Charlotte 49ers redshirt junior defensive end Tyriq Harris has been named to the 2018 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA all-Academic Team for excelling both on and off the football field. Harris was named to the team for the second straight year and is one of five repeat selections on the 11-player team.
One of the 49ers’ four team co-captains, Harris has a 3.63 GPA as a biology major. He was named Google Cloud Academic all-District 3 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), this month.
Campus exceeds goal for #GivingTuesdayCLT
UNC Charlotte nearly doubled the goal for its #GivingTuesdayCLT campaign, raising more than $6,600 to outfit the newly renovated Cpl. Robert Qutub USMC Veterans Lounge with technology upgrades.

J. Murrey Atkins Library will host a campus-wide celebration of Charlotte’s 250th anniversary on Monday, Dec. 3, the official date of the founding of the Queen City.
Social work field education fair offers inside track to practical training
The Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons recently served as the location for UNC Charlotte’s nationally ranked School of Social Work’s Field Education Fair. Students like Tachina Hardy buzzed around the tables, speaking with agents and learning about upcoming internships. Hardy is well aware of the networking opportunities the fair presents and has logged hundreds of hours in field experience in pursuit of undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Art contest asked students ‘How do you see aging?’
A photo of a rusted shovel with a broken handle, aged by years of harsh Appalachian weather and hard work, was displayed in UNC Charlotte’s Atkins Library during most of November. Seth Flynn, the creator, is a senior who is minoring in gerontology; he submitted it as part of a contest hosted by the Gerontology Program.
