Call for alumni nominations

The Black Alumni Chapter is seeking nominations for its 2018 Excellence in Leadership Award. The program, established in 2011, recognizes the accomplishments of UNC Charlotte alumni and friends in the greater Charlotte region who have achieved excellence in the areas of education; entrepreneurship; financial services; health care; philanthropy; public service; and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). City Council approves funding for UNC Charlotte conference center

The Charlotte City Council voted unanimously to invest $8 million toward the completion of the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center at UNC Charlotte. This planned conference center will enable the University to bring large research symposia and academic conferences to Charlotte.

Constitution Day program to focus on Supreme Court

What is at stake in the confirmation process of President Trump’s nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court is the topic of the University’s annual Constitution Day presentation, scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 17, in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.

Richard Bowser, a professor at Campbell University’s School of Law, and John Szmer, an associate professor in UNC Charlotte’s Political Science and Public Administration Department, will be the speakers for this event.

UNC Charlotte taking steps to improve air quality on campus

UNC Charlotte, with assistance from Clean Air Carolina, recently changed its “Design and Construction Manual” to require contracted companies to reduce diesel fuel emissions while working on campus. These new standards, which will apply to all future construction projects on campus, do not affect projects already in progress or out for bid.
