“Staging Sovereignty: Ephemeral Architecture and the Entry of Maria Teresa Rafaela into France, 1745,” recently published in the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, examines the architectural dimensions of the remise, a courtly ceremony that marked the moment when a royal bride departed her homeland to be given into her new husband’s possession. 

Will Russo is a junior computer science major with a sociology minor. He serves as chair of the Charlotte Green Initiative and treasurer of Peaks and Professors, a hiking club that focuses on connecting students, faculty and the great outdoors.

Why did you choose UNC Charlotte?

UNC Charlotte will serve as the campus host site for the 2024 American Association of Blacks in Higher Education annual Leadership and Mentoring Institute, July 14-20.

UNC Charlotte junior Jalen London has been selected for the competitive Amgen Scholars program and will conduct research this summer at Harvard University. 

For Winston-Salem native London — a Martin Scholar, nursing major and member of the Honors College and nursing honors program — the Amgen program will allow him to continue research he began at Harvard last summer.

Construction of new buildings is essential to UNC Charlotte’s rapid growth, but the long-term sustainability of the campus depends on the quality of those buildings. To guide high-performance design, the University’s Facilities Management Advisory Council adopted the goal of pursuing LEED Gold certification for all new construction and major renovation projects on campus larger than 20,000 square feet. 

Bertha Maxwell-Roddey, Ph.D., founding director of the University’s Africana Studies Department, died March 21 at the age of 93.
