CCI to hold 15th annual Cyber Security Symposium
The College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) will host its 15th annual Cyber Security Symposium on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
Halton Arena ranked among top venues by industry publication
Stadium Journey Magazine recently ranked UNC Charlotte’s Halton Arena No. 22 out of 351 venues for collegiate teams in Division 1 basketball.
According to Stadium Journey Magazine, Halton Arena “makes for an interesting and unique atmosphere for home games and is a great addition to a school with a plethora of beautiful athletic facilities.”
The Dale F. Halton Arena is a 9,000-seat venue located inside the Barnhardt Student Activity Center. It is home to the Charlotte 49ers men’s and women’s basketball teams and women’s volleyball.
N.C. DOT bridge replacement to close Hwy 29 near campus entrance
The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to replace the Mallard Creek bridges on U.S. Hwy 29/N.Tryon Street, which will affect traffic around the UNC Charlotte campus for the duration of the approximate 15-month project.
According to the latest information, construction will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 15, weather permitting. The first phase will close the southbound lanes of N. Tryon Street (U.S. Hwy 29) for around seven months (through May 2015). During this time, motorists will be detoured along Mallard Creek Church Road, I-85 and Harris Boulevard.
CAB’s Friday Night Live to feature Tracey Ashley
Comedian Tracey Ashley will perform at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 10, as part of the Campus Activities Board’s Friday Night Live series.
Ashley, who was a semifinalist on the fifth season of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing, is considered hilarious, endearing and all-around fun to watch. She is known for seamless storytelling, sharp topical material and hilarious punch lines. She also appeared on the OWN Network’s comedy special “Wand Sykes Presents: HERLARIOUS,” and she was recently nominated as Best Female Performer by Campus Activities Magazine.
Faces – Amy Palmer
The College of Education’s Amy Palmer has spent virtually her entire working career as an advocate for children with special needs.
Currently, Palmer is the grants office manager in the Department of Special Education and Child Development, but she assumed the job after teaching special education for nearly 20 years.
Annual Giving Green Campaign kicks off Oct. 1
Come one, come all to UNC Charlotte’s Giving Green Campaign Kickoff, which will be from noon to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Plaza.

University to host Carolina Conference on Queer Youth
The 2014 Carolina Conference on Queer Youth “Building Support and Envisioning Justice for LGBTQ Youth in their Schools and Communities” will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 17, in the Student Union.
The conference is free for those who sign up online and the entire community is invited to attend.
