Registration open for Fall Family Festival

The Office of Parent and Family Services and the Alumni Association invite Niner Nation family members to the 2014 Fall Family Festival on Saturday, Nov. 15.

“The Office of Parent and Family Services is excited for the Niner Nation family to have a second opportunity to attend a 49ers tailgate and football game,” said Kesha Williams, assistant director for parent and family services. “We are expecting an even bigger crowd then Family Weekend.” 

Rogelberg to deliver inaugural ‘Nuggets of Knowledge’ presentation

Steven Rogelberg, professor and director of UNC Charlotte’s Organizational Science program, will be the inaugural speaker for the UNC Charlotte Alumni Association’s Bonnie Cone Faculty Speaker Series “Nuggets of Knowledge.” 

Ventriloquist Lynn Trefzger to perform in Student Union

Ventriloquist Lynn Trefzger will perform at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Student Union. This free, public event is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board.

For more than 30 years, Trefzger has “given life” to a trunk full of comical characters in her performances worldwide to corporations, colleges, theatres and aboard cruise ships. Her vocal illusion talents introduce audiences to characters, such as a drunken, yet lovable camel; a grumpy old man; and a feisty little girl. Members of the audience often are selected to come on stage and participate in the routine.

49er Basketball Madness to kick off season

The Charlotte 49ers Basketball Madness event starts at 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 23, in Halton Arena. This annual celebration kicks off the basketball season, with fans getting the chance to meet the 2014-15 men’s and women’s squads. In addition, there will be skits and activities, dunking contests and more.The first 400 fans in attendance will receive a free 49ers rally towel to use at home games; admission to Charlotte 49ers Basketball Madness is free and open to the public.

Dubois tells Latin American Chamber of University growth, programs and services

Higher education is critical to the growth of urban areas, such as Charlotte, and how the University has instituted a number of programs and services to support the region’s growing Hispanic population were key points Chancellor Philip L. Dubois stressed as UNC Charlotte hosted an on-campus meeting of the Latin American Chamber of Commerce Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Charlotte bonds on upcoming ballot to include funding for University-area projects

Three Charlotte city bonds up for vote in November, and during the early voting period, include a number of projects related to the University City area.

The bonds include $110.96 million for transportation projects, $20 million for neighborhood improvements and $15 million to build housing for low- to middle-income residents.

UNC Greensboro professor to speak at Communication Studies Fall Colloquium

Christopher Poulos, associate professor and chair of the Department of Communication Studies at UNC Greensboro, will present “Writing a Bridge to Possibility: Life, Death and the Redemptive Power of Autoethnography” at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 28, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons.Poulos received his doctorate in human communication studies from the University of Denver. His research interests include relational and family communication, dialogue, communication ethics and film.

Charlotte 49ers football to play Kentucky in 2015, Massachusetts added to 2018-19 schedules

The Charlotte 49ers will play at the University of Kentucky, a member of the Southeastern Conference, during the 2015 season, which will be the team’s first as a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision. The game is slated for Nov. 21, 2015.The 49ers, whose football program has played the 2013 and 2014 seasons as an FCS Independent, will compete in Conference USA in 2015 with an opportunity to gain full FBS member status with bowl eligibility in 2016.

University health policy expert to participate in forum

William Brandon, the Metrolina Medical Foundation Distinguished Professor of Public Policy in Health at UNC Charlotte, will be among the panelists for “Healthcare for All – Can We Make it Happen?” This discussion will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 26, at Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Rd.
