Charlotte FC star and former Charlotte 49er Brandt Bronico ’17 scores big, two alumni are among America’s Most Influential and more.

The second stage of UNC Charlotte’s 10-year reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges is complete. This follows a campus visit March 21-23 by the on-site reaffirmation committee. 

Jessica Hoyle, a doctoral candidate in public health sciences in the College of Health and Human Services, recently received a $10,000 dissertation fellowship from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. 

The Charlotte 49ers will hold their annual Football Spring Game at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 22, at Richardson Stadium.

Admission is free for the event with gates opening at 6 p.m.; stadium seating will be general admission.

Fans of the 49ers will see head coach Biff Poggi and the team in action. Poggi, named head coach in November 2022, has assembled a roster with more than 40 new players, including 15 transfers from power five schools.

If you Googled “beautiful streams,” you’d find a plethora of cinematic, artistic shots of water gracefully flowing over the rocks. If you Googled “Toby Creek,” you may find something completely different. 

Streams aren’t meant to just be beautiful for a quick social media picture. They play a key role in the environment. Toby Creek, located in the University area, is a valuable asset to UNC Charlotte and the surrounding community. However, it’s been long overdue for improvements. 

Steven Rogelberg is a noted expert on meetings and the author of the “The Surprising Science of Meetings.”

Correspondent Mo Rocca visited campus recently to interview Rogelberg on how meetings can be reduced and improved for the annual “The Money Issue” on “CBS Sunday Morning,” which aired April 16.

The Office of Academic Affairs recognized faculty and an academic unit for exemplary work in the areas of teaching, advising and civic engagement at the annual Provost’s Awards Reception held Monday, April 10.

Coming fall 2024, Charlotte will celebrate the world created by L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”
