CTL workshop leaders committed to seeing, hearing faculty

Faculty support is the mission of the Center for Teaching and Learning, and for a trio of participants in the center’s Active Learning Academy, it has become a personal bonding experience.

For faculty members Susana Cisneros, Julie Cook and Brittany Johnson, a shared interest in active learning brought them together. They discovered common ground and shared feelings, and the friendship and support network they developed through team meetings are what’s going to continue, which will lead to further collaboration.

Day of Remembrance planned for April 29

This year’s Day of Remembrance will begin Friday, April 29, providing the UNC Charlotte community opportunities to gather and observe the three-year anniversary of the April 30, 2019, campus shooting that took the lives of Riley Howell and Reed Parlier and physically injured four other students. 

On that day, students, faculty, staff, alumni and all members of the Niner family may take part in activities designed to remember Howell and Parlier and reflect on the impact of their lives and this event on Niner Nation. 

Voice professor’s opera to be performed at Kennedy Center

The Washington, D.C., company IN Series will present an opera composed by UNC Charlotte Professor of Voice Brian Arreola at the Kennedy Center Saturday, April 9. 

Charlotte City Walks return for 2022

For the first time in three years, Charlotte City Walks return with a full lineup of free, in-person, community-led tours to introduce Charlotteans to new sides of their city.  City Walks, organized by the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute, were canceled in 2020 and were virtual-only in 2021 because of COVID.

Nanotechnology particles from UNC Charlotte lab featured on cover of federal document

The National Cancer Institute is showcasing nanotechnology particles designed and produced by the lab of leading UNC Charlotte researcher Kirill Afonin on the cover of a document presented to the U.S. House and Senate appropriations committees. NCI is the principal federal agency for cancer research and training.

Dean of the Graduate School announces plans to retire

Tom Reynolds, associate provost for graduate programs and dean of the Graduate School since May 2002, has announced his intention to retire on Jan. 1, 2023. The UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees recently voted to bestow dean emeritus status upon Reynolds. He was recommended for the distinction for his distinguished service to the University by Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber.
