Charlotte 49ers football to play Kentucky in 2015, Massachusetts added to 2018-19 schedules
The Charlotte 49ers will play at the University of Kentucky, a member of the Southeastern Conference, during the 2015 season, which will be the team’s first as a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision. The game is slated for Nov. 21, 2015.
The 49ers, whose football program has played the 2013 and 2014 seasons as an FCS Independent, will compete in Conference USA in 2015 with an opportunity to gain full FBS member status with bowl eligibility in 2016.
The addition of Kentucky to the 2015 schedule completes the 49ers non-conference portion of next season’s slate. The Conference USA schedule is expected to be released in February. Charlotte will open the season at Georgia State, of the Sun Belt Conference, Sept. 3 and welcome FCS Presbyterian for the home opener, Sept. 12. The 49ers will host Temple University of the American Athletic Conference, Oct. 3.
In addition, the 49ers have scheduled a home-and-home series for the 2018 and 2019 seasons with the University of Massachusetts. Charlotte will travel to Massachusetts, Sept. 22, 2018, and the Minutemen will return the visit, Sept. 14, 2019.
Charlotte and Massachusetts competed prior to the 49ers’ addition of football as members of the Atlantic 10.
