Faculty receive ASC regional artist grants
Four faculty members in the College of Arts + Architecture have received 2016 regional artist project grants from the Arts & Science Council (ASC).
John Allemeier, associate professor of composition, received a $2,000 grant to support the professional recording of new music. Will Campbell, associate professor of saxophone and director of the jazz studies program, received a $1,716 award to study with the jazz saxophonist Tim Armacost in New York City.
Assistant Professor of Dance Kim Jones was awarded a $2,000 grant to purchase special computer equipment to aid in her reconstruction of American modern dance master Paul Taylor’s lost 1962 work, “Tracer.” Tom Burch, assistant professor of scenic design, won a $730 grant to purchase computer software and training to expand his theatre work into digital media arts for live performance.
“The faculty of the College of Arts + Architecture are practicing artists and scholars whose work is presented across the Charlotte community and in venues throughout the world,” said Ken Lambla, dean of the college. “We are proud that these four have been recognized by the ASC for their authoritative scholarship and creative innovation.”
Each year, the ASC, in conjunction with arts councils in surrounding counties and with support from the North Carolina Arts Council and the Blumenthal Emerging Artists Endowment, awards grants to artists throughout the greater Charlotte region for specific projects or equipment purchases that help them further develop their careers. This year, 31 artists received awards, chosen from among 114 applicants.
