Six home, six away games comprise 2016 football schedule
The Charlotte 49ers have released the 12-game 2016 football schedule, which includes five contests with 2015 bowl teams and rematches of each Conference USA game played during the 49ers debut in the league, last season. In 2016, Charlotte compete in its second season at the FBS level as a member of Conference USA and its first with bowl eligibility.
The 49ers 12-game slate includes six home games and six road games with four non-conference matchups and eight Conference USA contests. In addition to five bowl participants, the 49ers will face three teams that received votes in the final 2015 national polls.
UNC Charlotte, which competes in C-USA’s seven-team East Division, will play five interdivisional opponents and three of the six teams from the West Division. Each of the C-USA foes are the same as last season, with the sites of the games being reversed.
The 2016 C-USA alignment will feature seven teams in the East Division (Charlotte, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion and WKU) and six teams in the West (Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Rice, Southern Miss, UTEP and UTSA).
Home games against Elon and Eastern Michigan and C-USA contests against Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion FIU and Rice highlight the schedule. Road games include the season-opener at Louisville, another non-conference matchup with Temple and league showdowns at Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss, Marshall and UTSA.
Louisville, Temple and Marshall all received votes in the final ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ poll. Temple also was in the final AP poll. Those three teams along with Middle Tennessee and Southern Miss all reached bowl games in 2015.
All games are subject to date changes. A schedule of televised games will be released at a later date.
