Woodiel joins Charlotte 49ers football coaching staff
Cody Woodiel has been hired as the Charlotte 49ers football tight ends coach. He was an offensive graduate assistant at the University of Oregon for the past two years and has seven years of coaching experience.
Prior to Oregon, the Troy University alumnus coached at Itawamba Community College in Mississippi and at his alma mater. Woodiel, who played tackle, guard and tight end in college, has coached with the offensive line at each of his stops.
He spent three years as the offensive line coach at Itawamba before serving a stint as offensive line coach at Murray State from December 2016 to March 2017. He left Murray State for Oregon, where he coached offensive tackles as a graduate assistant.
In 2016, his final year at Itawamba, the Indians ranked third in the NJCAA with 565 yards per game and 36.1 points per game.
Woodiel began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for two years at his alma mater, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Education. At Troy, he worked with the offensive line and tight ends.
A native of Hernando, Mississippi, Woodiel played for two seasons at Troy (2011-12) and started his playing career at Northeast Mississippi Community College. In his senior year with the Trojans, he started all 12 games for a unit that ranked 25th in the NCAA with 1.25 sacks allowed per game. He was selected to play in the Casino Del Sol all-star game after that season.
The 10th assistant coach to be hired by Healy, Woodiel completes a new staff that includes Zac Alley (nickels), Alex Atkins (offensive coordinator/offensive line), Mark Carney (quarterbacks), Brandon Cooper (co-defensive coordinator/safeties), Sean Dawkins (run-game coordinator/running backs), Montario Hardesty (receivers), Eddie Hicks (cornerbacks), Max Thurmond (special teams coordinator/linebacker), and Marcus West (assistant head coach/co-defensive coordinator/defensive line).
The Charlotte 49ers open spring camp, Tuesday, March 12, and will practice Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Charlotte’s annual Green-White Spring Game will be at 4p.m., Saturday, April 13.
