University graduate programs recognized in latest U.S. News & World Report rankings

The U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 list of Best Graduate Schools rankings are out, and once again, UNC Charlotte recorded a number of superlatives.

In the Belk College of Business, the part-time Master of Business Administration program ranked No. 35. This makes the degree the highest-ranked public part-time MBA in North Carolina and in the top 20 percent in the United States. Recently, the TFE Times ranked the Master of Science in Mathematical Finance 14th nationally.

Graduate programs in the Cato College of Education were among the top 20 percent in the 2020 U.S. News & World Report rankings nationally, too. Of the 392 graduate education programs nationwide, the Cato College’s came in at No. 78, with the graduate program in special education listed as No. 15 overall in that specialization.

The College of Computing and Informatics’ Master of Science in Computer Science is listed at No. 91 and tied with Auburn University, Brandeis University and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. CCI is the largest computing college in North Carolina.

The School of Social Work master’s program in the College of Health and Human Services is tied for 51st in the 2019-20 U.S. News & World Report rankings, improving four places from the previous year and ranking in the top 20 percent of all graduate social work programs nationally.

“Our ongoing ascent into the upper echelon of social work programs nationally is a testament to the quality of the academic experience at UNC Charlotte and the impact our faculty are making through their research and community outreach,” said Schnavia Hatcher, director of the School of the Social Work.

The School of Nursing master’s programs are ranked in the top 30 percent of programs nationally, landing at No. 74, scoring particularly high in its rating by fellow nursing programs. The Nurse Anesthesia program, offered in conjunction with Carolinas Medical Center, is ranked 36th overall.

The University’s nationally accredited Gerald G. Fox Master of Public Administration program in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is ranked in the top 21 percent of 285 public affairs programs nationwide. Within specialty areas, the MPA program ranked No. 16 in local government management, No. 22 in urban policy and No. 27 in public finance and budgeting.

“These national rankings speak to our program’s focus on providing students access to talented faculty who value high quality teaching, research and community outreach, and to staff who are committed to supporting our students,” said MPA Director Tom Barth. “We also are blessed with a community of practitioners at every organizational level who work closely with the program to provide students with opportunities to expand their learning.”

The Lee College of Engineering’s online Master of Science in Engineering Management program was ranked 33rd.
