The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness (ACCEHW) was created in 2009 to promote campus and statewide programs and services that emphasize healthy behaviors and foster a supportive campus culture for health and wellness. Here are the campus and statewide wellness program resources and events happening now.

Physical health

Spring Miles for Wellness (MFW) Challenge (Registration opened Mon., Feb. 14): This eight-week challenge runs from March 14 through May 8 and is intended to encourage employees to stay active and make their health and wellness a priority, a change starting with small steps.

Have a team of 10? Team captains should complete the “captain’s tracking sheet” and submit it to the state using this registration form.

Interested in learning more? Register to attend this online info session, tomorrow, Feb. 18, at 10 a.m., hosted by Alicia Bartosch, ACCEHW member and MFW advocate, who has volunteered to help organize teams to represent UNC Charlotte. Not available? Register for the one on March 2 at 9:30 a.m.

Need help finding a team at Charlotte? Complete this form by Friday, March 4. Bartosch will provide you with more details before March 14. (Note: This form is in addition to, not in lieu of, registering your team with the state using the link provided in the first bullet.)

National Walking Day is Wednesday, April 6: Walking for 30 to 60 minutes per day may sound like it isn’t much, but studies have shown that it can drastically improve your health. Take time on April 6 to get your steps in.

Nutrition health

The demonstration kitchen in the University Recreation Center will offer sessions throughout the semester on a variety of topics from nutritional lectures to “How to Make Your Own” recipes.

Register for this online cooking demonstration scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22. Katie Godin, R.D., L.D.N., from LifeStyle Medical Centers will teach basic dinner meal prepping techniques and demonstrate how to make one of her favorite heart healthy recipes, “Rosemary Walnut Crusted Salmon.”

Mental health

UNC Charlotte’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available through ComPsych’s GuidanceResources, which offers a variety of services and resources, including on-demand training and lunch & learns.
