Charlotte’s inaugural American Athletic Conference football schedule announced
The American Athletic Conference upcoming 2023 season will be the Charlotte 49ers’ first in the league as they will face six teams that advanced to bowl games in 2022 and six American opponents for the first time.
Charlotte’s home slate includes league games against Navy, Florida Atlantic, Memphis and Rice and non-conference matchups with S.C. State and Georgia State.
Game times and television designations will be added at a later date with information for the first three weeks of the season announced by June 1.
Following four non-conference contests, Charlotte’s first game as a member of The American will come at SMU, Sept. 30. After a bye week, Charlotte will host Navy, Oct. 14, in the 49ers’ first American Athletic Conference home game.
Other schedule notables include a road game at East Carolina (Oct. 21), a special Friday night showdown at home vs. Florida Atlantic (Oct. 27) and back-to-back home games vs. Memphis (Nov. 11) and Rice (Nov. 18).
Six opponents on the 49ers’ 2023 slate went to bowl games during the 2022 season: Maryland, Florida, SMU, East Carolina, Memphis and Rice. Charlotte will face two of those bowl teams, Memphis and Rice, at home — in the final two home games of the year. A total of seven teams from The American advanced to bowl games and league teams posted a 4-3 record.
