Dropbox ‘paper’ and ‘viewer’ available

Effective Wednesday, Nov. 29, the Dropbox features “paper” and “viewer” will be available.

“Paper” offers a collaborative workspace, similar to Google Docs. Check out this introductory video for more details.

“Viewer” enables an individual to observe when a person is looking at a shared file.

University’s class scheduling to change in fall 2018

Beginning fall 2018, UNC Charlotte will return to a class schedule that includes 50-minute classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. There will be a 15-minute transition between each class period. Any 75-minute classes held on two of the three days will occur at 2:30 p.m. and later.

Tuesday and Thursday classes will continue to meet in 75-minute blocks beginning at 8:30 a.m.

University to observe International Education Week

The Office of International Programs, in collaboration with campus partners, will host the UNC Charlotte International Education Week celebration Monday through Friday, Nov. 13-17.

International Education Week is an annual showcase of the role universities hold in shaping global awareness and understanding. There are more than 15 engagement opportunities planned for the University’s celebration.

UNC Charlotte joins State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement

UNC Charlotte is now a participant in the nationwide State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). This benefits the University in terms of regulatory compliance and students in terms of quality and consumer protection.

Faculty Honorary Degree Advisory Committee seeking nominees

A highlight of commencement is the recognition of individuals for exceptional and distinctive service to the University or the greater community through the awarding of an honorary degree from UNC Charlotte. The Faculty Honorary Degree Advisory Committee is seeking assistance in nominating persons for this honor.

Anti-racist author and educator to discuss social justice and advocacy

Anti-racist writer and activist Tim Wise will speak at UNC Charlotte on Tuesday, Oct. 24. A student-focused session is scheduled for 2 p.m., and a community-focused event will be at 6 p.m.; both will be in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.

Nominees sought for 2018 Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence

The selection committee for the 2018 Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence is soliciting nominees. This award is one of the most important and prestigious awards presented by the University as it honors outstanding teachers on campus and provides an example of UNC Charlotte’s commitment to teaching excellence.

Newly discovered TTz fluorophores exhibit extraordinary fluorescent and electrochromic qualities

Researchers from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte recently discovered a new class of molecules with exceptional fluorescent properties. Applications for the new compounds, called thiazolothiazole (TTz) viologens, are infinitely adaptable, including properties that make them potentially useful in OLED televisions and as biomolecular sensors for human cells.

Inclusivity is theme for employer showcase and mixer

The Multicultural Resource Center and University Career Center will co-host an “Inclusivity Employer Showcase and Mixer” on Thursday, Oct. 26, for UNC Charlotte students.

This two-part event will begin at 11 a.m. at the Popp Martin Student Union Rotunda. Students will have the chance to speak with 12 employers whose organizations have a focus on inclusivity. Company representatives will discuss their work as students learn about jobs and internships available in the Charlotte area.

New faculty learning community to focus on online teaching

The Center for Teaching and Learning is forming a new Online Faculty Learning Community. Faculty members who are interested in enhancing their online or blended courses are encouraged to participate.

“Our online faculty are committed to high quality teaching, and being part of this kind of professional learning community enables them sharpen their skills and share with others,” said J. Garvey Pyke, director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).
