Faculty/staff night for Nov. 15 basketball game

Faculty and staff members can receive up to four free tickets for the Nov. 15 men’s basketball contest against Elon University.
Ticket pickup is under way; interested employees can get their free tickets at the 49ers Athletic Ticket Office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays through Thursday or before noon on Friday.  A valid University faculty/staff ID is required.
The game starts at 4 p.m., Friday, in Halton Arena.

Charlotte falls to Wesley 35-28 in home finale

 The Charlotte 49ers rallied in the second half to take the lead only to see Wesley College return the favor with 14 fourth-quarter points to post a 35-28 victory in the 49ers final home game of the inaugural season.
Charlotte (4-6), facing its fifth straight nationally ranked team, suffered its fourth straight loss.
The 49ers were undone by three turnovers on offense and 10-of-17 Wesley third-down conversions on defense.

Charlotte football drops contest against Coastal Carolina, 50-25

 The 49ers were able to put up plenty of offense but struggled to contain Coastal Carolina’s high-powered attack in falling to the ranked Chanticleers 50-25 at Brooks Stadium in Conway.

UNC Charlotte to field marching band

The UNC Charlotte Department of Music will field a marching band in fall 2015. It will augment the drum line that has performed at home football games this fall.
The introduction of a full marching band – complete with brass instruments, woodwinds and a color guard – will coincide with the 49ers’ ascent into the elite Football Bowl Subdivision as a member of Conference USA.

‘A-Cone-A-Fair’ returns to honor 50th anniversary of Cone University Center

Recast as an open house, “A-Cone-A-Fair” makes a special return from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6, throughout the Cone University Center to commemorate the building’s 50th anniversary.  The event will highlight Cone Center’s history of student dedication, featuring historical exhibits and displays alongside the current student services that reside in the building.

Charlotte 49ers fall at Charleston Southern, 36-14

 The 24th-ranked Charleston Southern Buccaneers (8-1) piled up 548 yards with its option offense but needed 15 fourth-quarter points to pull away for a 36-14 victory over the visiting 49ers.
 Charlotte forced two turnovers against a team that had allowed just six all year, and recovered an onside kick as they continued to come up with ways to stay in the game.
 Trailing 21-7 after giving up a touchdown on the opening drive of the second half, Charlotte (4-4) answered with a convincing drive of its own to close to within seven, 21-14.

49ers Basketball Madness set for Thursday

Basketball Madness, an annual happening, is the official start of the season. This year’s event, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24, will feature a number of entertaining activities, including the introductions of the men’s and women’s teams, a slam dunk contest and more. The first 1,500 fans will receive a free Niner Nation T-shirt.
Madness begins at 9 p.m. in Halton Arena, and 49ers alumnus and WACH Fox meteorologist Garrett Bedenbaugh returns as the host for the evening.

Charlotte 49ers redshirt freshman quarterback Matt Johnson is among the initial 20 candidates on the “Watch List” for the Sports Network’s Jerry Rice Award, given to the top first-year player in the FCS, whether a true freshman or a redshirt freshman.

WCCB to broadcast 49ers away game against Coastal Carolina

WCCB-TV has added the Nov. 2 road game versus Coastal Carolina University to its coverage of Charlotte 49ers football.
Being billed as the “Battle for the Carolinas,” the game is slated for a 3 p.m. start. WCCB is the Charlotte 49ers television partner for its inaugural season.

49ers fall to UNC Pembroke 45-22 in Homecoming game

 UNC Pembroke put up 503 yards of total offense and built a 21-8 halftime lead on its way to a 45-22 victory over  host Charlotte 49ers to spoil the University’s first football Homecoming game.
“They were what I thought coming in,” said 49ers head coach Brad Lambert of the Braves, ranked No. 13 in the AFCA Division II Coaches poll.  “They are an old football team that handled themselves really well.  They were really prepared, played extremely hard and outplayed us today.”
