UNC Charlotte’s young alumni are making advances in their fields and communities. Ten outstanding alumni were recognized at the fifth annual 10 Under Ten Awards ceremony sponsored by the UNC Charlotte Young Alumni Chapter.
Call for honorary degree nominations
A highlight of commencement is the recognition of individuals for exceptional and distinctive service to the University or the greater community through the awarding of an honorary degree from UNC Charlotte. The Nominations, Honors and Awards Committee is seeking assistance in nominating persons for this honor.
The University’s Board of Trustees has established the following criteria regarding prospective nominees:
DeJoy-Woś Family Foundation Scholarship recipient completed summer internship
As a recipient of a DeJoy-Woś Family Foundation Scholarship, Elizabeth Smith spent her summer in Washington, D.C., taking classes and interning at the American Legion, as part of the Fund for American Studies.
She was one of nine scholarship recipients, hailing from colleges and universities in North Carolina and Estonia that received full tuition and housing to attend the program. Smith, a first-generation college student, took an economics class and a public policy class at George Mason University.
Six finalists named for Charlotte’s teaching excellence awards
Creating supportive learning environments that enable students to succeed is a hallmark of Charlotte faculty members, and this year’s nominees for the University’s teaching excellence awards exemplify that commitment.
