FM supervisor: ‘When people are in need, you help’

It has been a busy week of volunteering for Jerry Womack, a zone supervisor in UNC Charlotte’s Facilities Management Department.

During Holy Week, Womack said his church, Ebenezer Baptist, holds a mission blitz. He packed food at the Second Harvest Food Bank and prepared packages of medical supplies that included items such as non-prescription drugs and bandages for distribution to needy people as part of North Carolina MedAssist.

Partial closure scheduled for Smith/Prospector ADA ramp

Construction will require a partial closure of the ADA ramp between the Smith and Prospector buildings from 7 a.m., Monday, April 22, through 6 p.m., Friday, April 26.

Expect construction fencing and personnel in the area along with an alternate ADA access route. There may be periods of construction noise, too.

Remember to exercise caution when approaching construction areas.

AV technician named Student Employee of the Year

“I am on my way” is what one will hear from Spence Guffey when he responds to a request for technical assistance in the Cone University Center or Popp Martin Student Union.

Guffey, a computer science major and sociology minor, is the 2019 Student Employee of the Year. He has served in a variety of technical positions since November 2016.

E-waste, professional attire collection event scheduled

UNC Charlotte’s Office of Sustainability will hold a collection event for unwanted personal electronic devices (e-waste) and professional attire from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, in Parking Lot 5A. Items collected will be donated to benefit those in need.

Campus dining halls recognized for sustainability efforts

SoVi Dining Hall and Crown Commons were designated recently as “3 Star Certified Green Restaurants” by the Green Restaurant Association (GRA), a national nonprofit organization helping restaurants to become more environmentally sustainable.

Currently, the Charlotte area has five GRA-designated facilities, and two of those are UNC Charlotte’s SoVi Dining Hall and Crown Commons. The University is one of five higher education institutions in North Carolina with a certified green restaurant.
