It takes commonly admired values to stand out; maturity, diligence, dedication and hard work. These qualities are difficult to find on their own, but when they’re combined in one of UNC Charlotte’s student workers, it deserves to be recognized. 

HR announces the nominees for the 2023 Staff Employee of the Year

Thirty-one qualified nominations were submitted to the Human Resources Department for the 2023 Staff Employee of the Year. Employees can be recognized in the categories of Devotion to Duty, Innovation, Human Relations, Safety and Heroism, and Community and Public Service. 

Members of the campus community are encouraged to congratulate the nominees and thank them for their hard work and dedication to the campus community.

A message of care for the campus community

Dear Niners,
Over the last two weekends, tragic acts of violence have unfolded on campuses and in communities across the country. An attack left four students at the University of Idaho dead, a gunman took the lives of three UVA football players and injured two other students — including another member of the football team — and most recently, there was a shooting at Club Q, an LGTBQIA+ nightclub, in Colorado Springs. 

Our hearts grieve with the families, friends and communities affected by these senseless acts. 

University to observe Campus Sustainability Week

This year’s Campus Sustainability Week is Oct. 2-8. This annual observance engages the University community in sustainable practices on campus through events and volunteer opportunities.

Update on campus wastewater testing

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, UNC Charlotte has performed wastewater testing of campus buildings (now grouped into neighborhoods) to proactively mitigate the spread of the virus and to determine if infections are increasing or decreasing. The reporting structure of this testing has taken different forms, but the testing itself has continued since its implementation. As the virus and its variants continue to be present, here are a few things to remember:

Deon Ritchie: UNC Charlotte’s first Caswell Award recipient

A few weeks ago, I had the unique pleasure of sitting down with Deon Ritchie, facilities and operations specialist for Belk College of Business for over 25 years. What I thought was going to be a typical interview ended up being so much more. I walked away with a sense of awe of her humility, servanthood and perspective on life. 

Darius Griffin appointed to board of trustees for national campus safety organization

Darius Griffin, UNC Charlotte’s director of the Environmental Health and Safety Office, was appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association, the only organization focused entirely on serving environmental health and safety professionals in higher education.
