‘Energy Careers for Veterans’ scheduled
ROTC cadets and alumni/student veterans have the chance to network with representatives from companies in the energy industry during “Energy Careers for Veterans,” scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Motorsports Research Lab.
As part of the event, an NHRA top fuel dragster, sponsored by the U.S. Army and part of Don Schumacher Racing (DSR), will be on display. A DSR crew member will be present to answer questions about the dragster.
EPIC, the Motorsports Engineering program and the University Career Center are cosponsoring this opportunity.
Madsen named University Career Center director
Patrick Madsen is director of the University Career Center; he officially started the position on Monday, Aug. 17.
Madsen joins the University from UNC Greensboro, where he was director of its Career Services Center. He is recognized for successfully transforming UNC Greensboro’s career center into a contemporary one that meets the needs of today’s students, alumni and employers.
170-plus employers expected at 2015 Career and Public Service Expo
Organizers for this year’s Career and Public Service Expo, hosted by the University Career Center, expect more than 170 organizations to attend the event; the companies will offer students thousands of full-time jobs, internships and co-ops in a range of industries.
Career Center to hold annual Education Career Fair
UNC Charlotte students and alumni, as well as community members, are invited to the Education Career Fair, which will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.
Internship Week to feature Off-campus Job and Internship Fair
Internship Week is set for Monday, Feb. 2, through Friday, Feb. 6, and the University Career Center will host a week of programs and events to encourage students to gain relevant experience, to prepare them for the internship search and to connect them directly to potential employers.
Annual Mock Interview Day scheduled
The University Career Center will hold its annual Mock Interview Day on Friday, Jan. 30, in the Cone University Center, Lucas Room. A popular event, Mock Interview Day brings experienced professionals from the Charlotte business community onto campus to work with students and alumni to improve their interviewing skills.
More than 25 employers, including Duke Energy, Wells Fargo, Kellogg’s, the Charlotte Nature Museum and Messer Construction, will participate in this year’s event.
State internship program director to visit
Stephanie Nantz, executive director of the N.C. State Government Internship Program, will host an informational session with University faculty and staff members at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, in Cone University Center, Room 341.
Programs support National Career Development Month
November is National Career Development Month, and the University Career Center is sponsoring programs to encourage students to “Reimagine Life’s Possibilities.”
Throughout the month, the Career Center is holding information sessions, employer site visits, workshops and drop-in opportunities for students that address a wide range of career-related topics designed to encourage planning for the future. Students and alumni can explore public service careers available with the Peace Corps, FBI and various federal and North Carolina government agencies.
Alumni Peace Corps volunteers to speak at information session
The University Career Center for Work, Service and Internships is cosponsoring a “Peace Corps Alumni Panel and Information Session” at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the College of Health and Human Services, Room 376.
UNC Charlotte alumni will share their experiences about living and working in communities overseas as part of their Peace Corps service, and local recruiter Deborah Buckley will provide information about the advantages of being a Peace Corps volunteer.
90-plus employers to attend Off-campus Job and Internship Fair
More than 90 employers are registered to attend this semester’s Off-campus Job and Internship Fair, which will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.
