Bell ringing to celebrate 50th year in UNC system

Members of the campus community are invited to celebrate the University’s 50th year as part of the UNC system at 2 p.m., Monday, March 2, in the Student Union Rotunda.

On March 2, 1965, the N.C. House of Representatives passed a bill designating Charlotte College as the University of North Carolina at Charlotte effective July 1, 1965. According to the Charlotte Collegian, news of the bill’s passage was greeted on campus with “bell ringing, cheers, shouts and tears of happiness.”

ACCEHW offering programs, webinar in March

The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness (ACCEHW) has a number of programs scheduled for March.

 On Wednesday, March 4, the lunch-and-learn “Parenting Your College-age Children” will be from noon to 1 p.m., in the Student Union, Room 200. Register to attend online.

UNC Board of Governors to meet at UNC Charlotte

UNC Charlotte will host the UNC Board of Governors Thursday and Friday, Feb. 26-27.

It is considered a great honor for a constituent institution to have the governing board of the UNC system on its campus. An openness to innovation and ideas has spurred the University’s incredible growth in a relatively short time – just 50 years as a UNC campus, and UNC Charlotte is uniquely positioned to serve a critical population in the state, helping secure a big future for public higher education in North Carolina.

Tuition hike proposal on UNC Board of Governors February agenda

Rapidly increasing demand and several years of budget cuts are the key factors in a proposal to raise UNC Charlotte tuition for the next two fiscal years.

The UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees, this past fall, approved a plan to raise tuition for resident undergraduates by 3 percent for FYs 2015-16 and 2016-17. The current in-state, full-time tuition/general fee rate is $6,179 for fall and spring (FY 2014-15).

Chancellor to receive CASE district award for diversity efforts

Chancellor Philip L. Dubois is the 2014-15 recipient of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III Inclusion and Diversity Leadership Award, which recognizes an individual for his/her efforts to foster inclusion and diversity within the higher education profession, on his/her campus or in the greater community.

New program to encourage wellness with points incentives

The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness, as part of its mission, develops programs to emphasize healthy behaviors among University faculty and staff members. New for 2015 is the “ACCEHW Wellness Points System.”

This novel initiative assigns points values for various wellness activities, and faculty and staff members can earn incentives based upon their semester point totals.

ACCEHW sponsoring webinar on ‘Keeping the Spark Alive in Your Marriage’

The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness is offering the webinar “Staying Connected: Keeping the Spark Alive in Your Marriage.” It is scheduled for noon, Tuesday, Feb. 24.

While this “lunch and learn” event is being offered as a webinar; there will be a live presenter, so interested employees must watch at the scheduled time.
