‘Future Artifacts’ explores digital, manual art-making
“Future Artifacts,” an exhibition in the Projective Eye Gallery at UNC Charlotte Center City, will be displayed through Friday, March 13. Featuring works by five artists, “Future Artifacts” addresses the “digital reality” of contemporary culture and its effect on artists and art-making.
Film by art professor screened in Norway
“Cartographer,” a film by Associate Professor of Art Marek Ranis was screened recently at the Northern Norway Art Museum in Tromsø, Norway.The 45-minute film is about the life and activism of the Sámi artist and poet Hans Ragnar Mathisen, one of the most significant artists of the Arctic region. An artist talk with Ranis and Mathisen followed the screening.
Storrs Gallery featuring works by Cuban artist inspired by literature
Ceramic works by Cuban-American artist Carlos Estévez are on view in Storrs Gallery through Friday, March 27. The exhibition, “Palimpsest,” is a culmination of three ceramic series that Estévez produced between 2016 and 2018.
Dance Department wins NEA ‘Art Works’ grant
Kaustavi Sarkar, assistant professor of dance, is the principal investigator on a 2020-21 Art Works grant awarded to the Department of Dance.The $10,000 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) “Art Works” grant will support the project “Indian Dance and American Communities: Expanding Forms and Audiences.”
School of Architecture dedicates Storrs Lecture Hall to scholarship donors
The School of Architecture (SoA) recently renamed the newly renovated Storrs Lecture Hall, the Jack and Vada Boardman Auditorium, in recognition of the Boardman family’s generous funding of student scholarships.
Spring 2020 Faculty & Friends Concerts scheduled
The Department of Music opens the spring 2020 semester with three Faculty & Friends Concerts. The first, on Monday, Jan. 27, features Assistant Professor of Oboe Elizabeth Sullivan with Trio Village. Created with flutist Rebecca Johnson and pianist Cara Chowning, Trio Village champions the music of women and other underrepresented composers as well as discovering older works that are not standard to the chamber music canon.
Alumna is backstage on Broadway
There are many players working behind the scenes of a Broadway production to ensure the audience sees a good show. Allie Dillard ’08, a graduate of the College of Arts + Architecture, is one of those players. She is using her wardrobe talents to make sure cast members look their best.
Theatre professor’s production among Chicago’s Top 10
The Steep Theatre (Chicago) production of “Pomona,” directed by Associate Professor of Theatre Robin Witt, has been named one of the Top 10 Chicago theatre productions of 2019 by the Chicago Tribune.
