UNC Charlotte receives award for air compliance excellence

 UNC Charlotte recently received an ACE Award for ongoing air compliance excellence by the Mecklenburg County Air Quality. Charlotte met all terms of its air quality permit for an entire year including on-time submission of reports, notifications and fee payments; completion of required emissions testing; a compliant annual inspection; and no notices of violation or nuisance dust/odor complaints to earn the recognition.

New this fall — support ASC or SECC

This fall, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to support the Arts & Science Council (ASC) or the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) through a new UNC Charlotte annual faculty and staff giving campaign. Join College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Dean Nancy Gutierrez in support of this fall campaign.

Novant Health mobile mammogram unit to visit campus

The Novant Health Breast Center mobile unit will be on campus from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 4, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center loading dock, located behind West Deck.  Appointments, which are required, can be reserved by calling 704-384-7226. According to Novant, screening mammograms are covered as preventive care under most insurance plans. For your convenience, Novant Health will file a claim with your provider.

Jeter needs shared leave

Aretha Jeter, Building Environmental Services, needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through Sept. 15.To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements and participant forms in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or in the literature racks outside of the Benefits Office, King Building, Room 207. Jumpstart your healthy routine and join the Miles for Wellness challenge

Motivating yourself to exercise can be difficult, but sometimes, all you need is to just take the first step with some encouragement from your colleagues. Each semester, the Office of State Human Resources sponsors an eight-week Miles for Wellness (MFW) Challenge to encourage state employees to stay active and make their health and wellness a priority, beginning with just a few small steps.

Lee College of Engineering professor Edward Stokes has died

Edward Stokes ’81, ’84 M.S.E., a professor of electrical and computer engineering in the William States Lee College of Engineering, died Saturday, Aug. 21.Stokes, who earned bachelor’s degrees in physics and mechanical engineering and engineering science and a master’s in mechanical engineering and engineering science from UNC Charlotte, completed a Ph.D. in physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Holmes earns international educational facilities credential

Robert Holmes Jr., an architectural technician with the Office of Business Services, recently earned the credential, Certified Educational Facilities Professional, from the APPA (formerly the Association of Physical Plant Administrators). The credential demonstrates his mastery of professional expertise and understanding related to educational facilities management.

OneIT’s Cortni Schenker has died

Cortni Schenker, an employee with UNC Charlotte’s Office of OneIT, died Friday, Aug. 20. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Monday, Aug. 23, at Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church, 109 E. Lawyers Rd. Monroe, North Carolina.Schenker, a graduate of Appalachian State University, was an IT Service Desk analyst for more than 16 years and was known for her expertise with Service Desk Banner.

Then we have the venue for you – Charlotte Kids Fest.A collaboration between UNC Charlotte and University City Partners, Charlotte Kids Fest is a free outdoor festival that encourages kids ages 4-10 to CREATE! DANCE! DISCOVER! LEARN! PLAY! and GO! through hands-on activities that stimulate their minds while having fun.The festival, the only one of its kind and scale in the Charlotte region, will take place at UNC Charlotte from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 9.
