More fitness space, better user experience offered by a ‘better Belk Gym’
The newly renovated Belk Gym will reopen Monday, Nov. 16, for limited fitness and recreational use. Final move-in efforts will continue; however, students and visitors to the facility will notice a number of improvements, including air conditioning for the gymnasiums and workout facilities and upgrades that feature a new fitness center and cycling studio.
Academic classes, sport clubs activities and intramural sports will resume in Belk Gym in January. Renovations will continue through spring on the pool.
University to host mobile mammography unit
Charlotte Radiology’s Mobile Breast Center will be on campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16, in the loading dock area behind the Barnhardt Student Activity Center, to conduct digital screening mammograms.

CRC student attends national rally, lobbies policymakers
Tens of thousands of people attended the UNITE to Face Addiction launch event held in Washington, D.C.., including Abby Foster, a student and member of the Collegiate Recovery Community at UNC Charlotte.
The purpose of the rally was to raise awareness about the stigma of substance abuse. Seven hundred partners joined together to create the first-ever rally and concert on the National Mall. Performers included Joe Walsh, Steven Tyler, Sheryl Crow and many others.
Webinar to focus on emotional eating
The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness is sponsoring the webinar “Emotional Eating: The Connection Between Mood and Food” from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18. Register online to be able to view this offering.
Documentary, discussion to examine sexual assaults on colleges
A free screening of the documentary “The Hunting Ground” will be at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.
“The Hunting Ground” was created to educate audiences on the widespread issue of campus sexual assault. The title of the documentary was chosen to represent the ideal conditions college campuses offer serial rapists to commit violent acts and escape responsibility.
Workshops designed to help students achieve financial planning success
Many students enter and leave college unprepared to navigate the basics of financial planning and debt management. The Division of Student Affairs and Graduate School are cosponsoring two workshops led by financial literacy advisor Bryan Ashton on Thursday, Oct. 22.
“Teaching Financial Literacy to Students” (for faculty and staff interested in incorporating financial education into their program) will be at 10 a.m. in the Student Union, Room 265.
“Financial Planning Workshop” (for students, open to all) is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Student Union Movie Theater.
ACCEHW sponsoring webinar on resiliency
The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness is sponsoring the webinar “Resiliency: Bouncing Back after a Setback” at noon, Thursday, Oct. 15. Employees interested in viewing this offering should register online.
Deadline to join Miles for Wellness walking program
Registration for the walking program Miles to Wellness is through Thursday, Oct. 8. All faculty and staff members are eligible to participate in this four-week challenge that begins Monday, Oct. 12, and runs through Monday, Nov. 9.
The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness will provide the first 200 participants with a pedometer to use.

Collegiate Recovery Community to host recovery week events
Every September National Recovery Month is observed to educate Americans that with treatment those with a mental or substance use disorder can live a healthy and rewarding life. Recovery Month celebrates the progress made by those in recovery.
The theme for Recovery Month 2015 is Join the Voices for Recovery: Visible, Vocal, Valuable! It focuses on the value of peer support in educating, mentoring and helping others. This theme invites individuals in recovery and their support systems to be catalysts for change in communities.
Inaugural Silent Witness unveiling to raise awareness of domestic violence
The unveiling of the inaugural Silent Witness display will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, in the Student Union Rotunda. Using life-size figures, Silent Witness enables individuals to visualize victims of domestic violence.
