A new study published today in Nature Medicine unveils a significant breakthrough in the understanding and early detection of multiple sclerosis (MS). Researchers have identified a unique autoantibody signature present in approximately 10% of patients with MS years before the onset of clinical symptoms.

This summer, the Charlotte Heat Mappers, a coalition of community organizations, nonprofits and government entities led by UNC Charlotte’s Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences, will oversee a community science campaign to map variations in urban heat across the city. Charlotte is one of 14 U.S. communities and four international cities selected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to join its 2024 Urban Heat Island mapping campaign. This effort is designed to identify areas where people are most at risk during extreme heat waves.

Belk College of Business Professor Franz W. Kellermanns ranks first in the nation and fourth worldwide for family business research, according to a new ranking. 

Additionally, UNC Charlotte ranks second nationally and fifth among universities worldwide. Texas State University released the Family Business Research Productivity Ranking University in December.

UNC Charlotte’s William States Lee College of Engineering, in conjunction with Charlotte Douglas International Airport, has established a one-of-a-kind partnership, the Charlotte Aviation Innovation and Research Institute, or Charlotte AIR.

Over the past 21 months, the U.S. Federal Reserve has steadily raised interest rates in an effort to cool the economy and stave off inflation. The North Carolina and U.S. economies are showing signs of slowing, although a return of inflation is still not out of the question.
