Alicia Garza, a co-founder of Black Lives Matter, will speak at 7 p.m., Monday, March 28, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. The event is free for UNC Charlotte students and is cosponsored by the Campus Activities Board and the Multicultural Resource Center.

Forty-niner Forum bringing Luke Kuechly to campus

Luke Kuechly, a three-time pro bowler and middle linebacker for the Carolina Panthers, will visit UNC Charlotte for a conversation with the campus community at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.

Tickets for this event, sponsored by the Center for Leadership Development as a part of the Forty-niner Forum Speaker Series, are $7 for students and $15 for faculty and staff members with a UNC Charlotte ID. They will be on sale at the Halton Arena Box Office starting, Monday, March 14.

Writer to address overcoming adversity, eating disorder recovery

Author Jenni Schaefer will present “Almost Anorexic: Do you have an ‘Ed’ (eating disorder) in your head?” at 7 p.m., Monday, April 11, in the Student Union Movie Theater.

Schaefer’s best-selling novel “Life Without Ed: How One Woman Declared Independence from Her Eating Disorder and How You Can Too” chronicles her journey with an eating disorder and established her as a leader in the recovery movement.

Belk Gym pool reopens

The Belk Gym pool, which measures half of an Olympic-sized pool at 25 meters long and 22 meters wide, has reopened for use. Pool improvements include new tile lane markers, lighting and ventilation, an improved pool deck and bleacher area and on-deck showers and restrooms. Additional improvements were made to the main drains and tile work around the pool deck during renovations.

Annual ‘Chancellor’s Lunchtime Student Talk’ scheduled

Chancellor Philip L. Dubois will hold an interactive discussion with the student body at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, in the Student Union Rotunda.  The annual “Chancellor’s Lunchtime Student Talk” is an opportunity for students to discuss current issues facing the University and direct questions to the chancellor and campus administrators.

Following the chancellor’s remarks, Student Body President Mitch Daratony will deliver his “State of the University” address.

Free food will be provided.

Harlem Globetrotters to bring two shows to Halton Arena

The Harlem Globetrotters will bring their family show to Halton Arena for two performances on Saturday, March 26, during the team’s 90th anniversary world tour. Game times are 2 and 7 p.m.

Jackson named ‘Leader of the Day’

Arthur Jackson, vice chancellor of student affairs, was “Leader of the Day” Feb. 16 for the YBM Leadership Alliance. He was featured on the organization’s website.

YBM Leadership Alliance is a nonprofit organization focused on leadership development for young black men.

Chapman to discuss ‘love languages’ for healing relationships

Gary Chapman, one of the world’s leading Christian marriage counselors, will discuss the keys to successful relationships in the talk “The Five Love Languages” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life is sponsoring this free, public event. A book signing will follow the talk in the Cone Center, Lucas Room.

Halton Arena to host Ebix Charity Challenge

Professional tennis player and North Carolina native John Isner is bringing his annual Ebix Charity Challenge to UNC Charlotte’s Halton Arena on Thursday, Feb. 4. Tickets for general admission start at $35; discounted tickets for UNC Charlotte faculty and staff start at $10. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; the exhibition starts at 7:30 p.m.

MSW student receives state award

Aayla Alexander, a graduate student in social work, is the 2016 recipient of the Presidents’ Award from the National Association of Social Workers North Carolina chapter (NASW-NC).

According to the association, Alexander was selected for exhibiting a “dedication to the social work profession through her academic excellence, community involvement and professional experience,” and the award honors her “exceptional leadership skills and professional potential.”
