Former Counseling Center staff member to discuss mindfulness
Susan Funk, a former member of the University’s Counseling Center, will talk about mindfulness at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16, in the Student Union, Room 200.
Funk is a clinical psychologist specializing in providing treatment for trauma, anxiety, depression and spiritual and existential concerns; she integrates mindfulness practices into most of her work. She said her passion is to help people find some peace in their busy and often chaotic lives; get connected to their true, authentic selves; and learn how to listen to the wisdom of their bodies, minds and spirits.
Halloween-themed events to feature mentalists, ghost hunter
For Halloween, the Campus Activities Board is bringing two mentalists and a ghost hunter to campus.
Jeff and Tessa Evason, mentalists who perform feats of ESP and second sight, will present a show on Wednesday, Oct. 28, and ghost hunter Chris Fleming will speak about supernatural phenomena and his personal experiences with ghosts on Saturday, Oct. 30. Both events are free and will be at 7 p.m. in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.
Panel to explore religious and spiritual diversity
World religions take various approaches to answer the question “Is There Life after Death?” Representatives from the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths will share their perspectives on the afterlife in a panel discussion at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19, in the Student Union Theater. The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life is sponsoring this event.

Workshops designed to help students achieve financial planning success
Many students enter and leave college unprepared to navigate the basics of financial planning and debt management. The Division of Student Affairs and Graduate School are cosponsoring two workshops led by financial literacy advisor Bryan Ashton on Thursday, Oct. 22.
“Teaching Financial Literacy to Students” (for faculty and staff interested in incorporating financial education into their program) will be at 10 a.m. in the Student Union, Room 265.
“Financial Planning Workshop” (for students, open to all) is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Student Union Movie Theater.
Title IX workshops to focus on ‘The BasIX’ and ‘The DynamIX’
The Title IX Office and the Center for Wellness Promotion are sponsoring the two-part workshop series “Forty IXers: Know Your Title IX.” The first event, “The BasiIX” is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, in the College of Health and Human Services, Room 376. “The DynamIX” will be at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 21, in CHHS, Room 376.
Homecoming festivities to celebrate Niner Nation spirit
UNC Charlotte’s Homecoming Committee has planned a number of activities for the week leading up to this year’s Charlotte 49ers football game at noon, Saturday, Oct. 24, against the Southern Mississippi Eagles in Richardson Stadium.
Homecoming highlights include the Homecoming Lights Parade, an appearance by comedian Kenan Thompson and a Day of Service to benefit the UNC Charlotte Food Pantry.
Student Union Art Gallery displaying ‘Four Years of Anxiety’
The student art exhibition “Four Years of Anxiety” is on display through Saturday, Oct. 31, in the Student Union Art Gallery.
The exhibit features the work of UNC Charlotte seniors Joanna Zamora and Kaitlin Waddell, and it includes works they have completed during the course of their undergraduate careers. Each will graduate in December with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in illustration.
SNL’s Kenan Thompson to headline Homecoming comedy show
“Saturday Night Live” comedian Kenan Thompson will perform at 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19, in the Student Union, Room 340, for the 2015 Homecoming Comedy Show sponsored by Campus Activities Board.
Early discount on 2016 Harlem Globetrotters tickets
Halton Arena will be the site for two Harlem Globetrotters contests on March 26, 2016. Game times are 2 and 7 p.m. for the team’s appearance at UNC Charlotte, which is part of the Harlem Globetrotters 90th anniversary world tour.
From Oct. 1 through 10 p.m., Oct. 5, there is a special 25 percent discount (use offer code EARLY). Certain restrictions will apply; more information is on the Web.
Collegiate Recovery Community to host recovery week events
Every September National Recovery Month is observed to educate Americans that with treatment those with a mental or substance use disorder can live a healthy and rewarding life. Recovery Month celebrates the progress made by those in recovery.
The theme for Recovery Month 2015 is Join the Voices for Recovery: Visible, Vocal, Valuable! It focuses on the value of peer support in educating, mentoring and helping others. This theme invites individuals in recovery and their support systems to be catalysts for change in communities.
