Crowdfund UNC Charlotte receives positive response from donors
UNC Charlotte’s use of crowdfunding for smaller campus ventures is achieving positive results.
To date, the Witherspoon Greek Alumni Scholarship is at nearly 80 percent of its goal, and the Niner Student Pantry has met its goal. Sheida Hosseinzadeh’s Memorial Scholarship exceeded its goal of $25,000 dollars and garnered support from local and international donors.
Faculty, staff and student teams with at least six members can submit Crowdfund project applications for spring 2016 through Wednesday, Nov. 25.
University advancement using crowdfunding to generate financial support
Social media has altered fundraising, and the UNC Charlotte Division of University Advancement is assisting members of the Niner Nation to take advantage of the trend to solicit small gifts for various campus ventures.
Crowdfund UNC Charlotte provides an online platform to students, faculty and staff to generate funding for ideas significant to them.
Lowe’s CEO gives $2.5 million to UNC Charlotte
Alumnus Robert Niblock, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Lowe’s Companies Inc., is donating $2.5 million to UNC Charlotte’s Belk College of Business. His gift will support the Student Center for Professional Development in the Belk College, which will be named the Robert A. Niblock Student Center for Professional Development.
UNC Charlotte and the ASC – Cultural superstars
This week, the Giving Green Campaign spotlight shines on the Arts & Science Council, another of the beneficiaries supported by the University’s centralized, unified workplace giving program. Community organizations devoted to dance, history/heritage, music, science/nature, theatre and visual arts benefit from support through the Arts & Science Council, a leading player in the region since 1958. The nearly 1,000 charities affiliated with the State Employees Combined Campaign are in the Giving Green Campaign spotlight this week. This short film features UNC Charlotte employees sharing how they are staking their claim with an SECC nonprofit.
2015 Giving Green Campaign premieres, volunteer opportunities scheduled throughout October
Nearly 300 faculty and staff members strolled the red carpet inside the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Tuesday to celebrate the “Hollywood-esque” premiere of this year’s Giving Green Campaign; nonprofit organizations supported by the Arts & Science Council and State Employees Combined Campaign benefit from the University’s workplace giving program, along with units on campus through the UNC Charlotte Foundation.
Student Matt Tifft scores top 10 finish in XFINITY Series debut
Driving the No. 20 UNC Charlotte Toyota Camry, 19-year-old student Matt Tifft raced to a top 10 finish in the VisitMyrtleBeach.com 300 at Kentucky Speedway Saturday, Sept. 26. The car was decked out in UNC Charlotte colors and logos, and the driver and crew wore UNC Charlotte-branded suits, too.

The third quarter 2015 edition of the UNC Charlotte magazine is online. This edition chronicles a variety of University milestones: the 49ers’ entry into FBS and C-USA football, the first season of the Pride of Niner Nation marching band, sensational gifts from alumni donors whose names now grace campus structures, a proud alum leading the Charlotte police force, amazing research by students, faculty and staff and more.
Hauser Alumni Pavilion dedicated
UNC Charlotte leaders, alumni and friends of the University gathered beneath the newly constructed Hauser Alumni Pavilion for a formal ceremony to dedicate the facility prior to the Charlotte 49ers football game against the Florida Atlantic Owls Sept. 26.
The pavilion resulted from a significant gift commitment from longtime UNC Charlotte supporters Nancy and David Hauser.
Business student to make NASCAR XFINITY debut sporting University logos, colors
UNC Charlotte student Matt Tifft will make his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Kentucky Speedway driving the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry. The car will be bedecked in UNC Charlotte logos and colors.
The 19-year-old business management major from Hinckley, Ohio, currently runs a part-time schedule in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for Kyle Busch Motorsports. He also competes in a limited amount of ARCA Series events throughout the year.
