Thousands view commencement exercises via global live stream
The University’s three commencement exercises held recently provided an opportunity for graduates and their family and friends to celebrate an important accomplishment. But for thousands of individuals who couldn’t make it to the Queen City, they, too, were able to witness the ceremonies via the Web.
PR team member wins national writing award
Phillip Brown, internal communications manager in the University’s Public Relations Office, recently won a Gold Hermes Award for publication writing for the article “Trailblazers Turn the Tassel.” The feature was published in the second quarter 2014 edition of the UNC Charlotte magazine.
‘Day of Convocation’ segment to be rebroadcast
“The Live Wire” segment featuring Kim Buch, professor of psychology, and Steven Serio, former student body president, will be rebroadcast on Thursday, April 30. They discussed the inaugural “Day of Convocation,” which will be held Aug. 24.
“The Live Wire” can be viewed on computers or mobile devices starting at 2 p.m.
Next generation Inside UNC Charlotte website to launch Friday
Inside UNC Charlotte, the online campus news/information resource for UNC Charlotte employees, is getting a new look, and the redesigned site launches Friday, Jan. 30. It was a collaborative effort by units within University communications, based upon feedback and suggestions from users across campus.
New sculpture installed near Hechenbleikner Lake
UNC Charlotte’s impressive public artwork collection has increased with the installation of “Aperture” near Hechenbleikner Lake.
The new piece is a steel sculpture that is mounted on a bearing, which can be rotated to present different views. It is the creation of artist John Medwedeff. Longtime University benefactor Ike Belk commissioned the work.
Art faculty to discuss exhibitions on Jan. 15 ‘Live Wire’
David Brodeur, associate professor of graphic design, and Thomas Schmidt, assistant professor of interdisciplinary 3D studio, will be the guests on the Jan.15 edition of “The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast. They will discuss their exhibitions on display in the Rowe Galleries.
Jan. 8 ‘Live Wire’ canceled, rebroadcast to air
The planned “Live Wire” for Jan. 8 has been canceled; there will be a rebroadcast of a program featuring Ted Amato, professor of economics, and student Brittany Nunn discussing the imapact of the Business Honors Program and Justin Webb and student Luzina Holden discussing business innovation and entrepreneurship at UNC Charlotte.
Employees can watch “The Live Wire” at their desks or on their mobile devices starting at 2 p.m..
UNC Charlotte Magazine receives national Gold MarCom Award
UNC Charlotte Magazine recently received a 2014 Gold MarCom Award in the category of educational publications.
SPARK Publications, the creative firm that designs the magazine, nominated the second quarter edition of the UNC Charlotte Magazine for the honor.
John Bland, director of public relations in the UNC Charlotte Office of University Communications, is the magazine’s editor.
Connaughton segment to air on ‘North Carolina Now’
John Connaughton from the Belk College of Business discusses his recent Babson Capital/UNC Charlotte Economic Forecast with Stephen Ward, executive director of University communications, for a segment that will air on UNC-TV’s “North Carolina Now” at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10.
