University again designated Tree Campus USA institution

For the fifth consecutive year, UNC Charlotte has earned the Tree Campus USA Award. Given by the Arbor Day Foundation, this national honor recognizes colleges and universities that are committed to urban forest management and that engage staff and students in conservation goals.

Established in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation, Tree Campus USA currently has more than 250 colleges and universities that have achieved this distinction.

Fall Commencement was a worldwide celebration

Thousands of family and friends gathered at Fall Commencement to celebrate the University’s newest graduates. But worldwide, thousands more tuned in to one of the three ceremonies to join the festivities.

University appoints new associate vice chancellor for safety and security

John Bogdan, a retired U.S. Army colonel, has been named the new associate vice chancellor for safety and security at UNC Charlotte. He will assume his duties Jan. 2, 2019.

Tuesday 8 a.m. exams moved to 8 p.m., University in Condition 1 early Tuesday

Exams scheduled for 8 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, have been moved to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11. All other exams will continue as scheduled. The University will move to Condition 1 (C1) reduced operations from 12 a.m. to 8:59 a.m. Tuesday. All University operations will resume at 9 a.m.

Monday morning exams only rescheduled, Friday commencement pushed to 5 p.m.

The Charlotte area experienced adverse weather Saturday night and into Sunday, but it is expected conditions will improve by midday Monday.
All exams scheduled to begin before 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10, have been moved to Friday, Dec. 14, at the same times and locations. Exams scheduled for 2 p.m. and later on Monday, Dec. 10, will continue as originally scheduled.
The University will remain in Condition 2 (C2) suspended operations until 7:59 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10. The University will move to Condition 1 (C1) reduced operations at 8 a.m., Monday, Dec. 10. Normal operations will resume at noon, Monday, Dec. 10.

University moving to C2 Sunday, No Decision on Monday exams, Commencement

As a result of current weather conditions, the University will be in Condition 2 (C2) suspended operations from 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Dec 9. All scheduled activities are canceled, including the men’s basketball game. Non-mandatory employees must not report to work. NO DECISION HAS BEEN MADE YET ON MONDAY EXAMS OR COMMENCEMENT.

Saturday evening exams rescheduled, University moving to C1 6 p.m., Saturday

As a result of expected adverse winter weather, the University will move to Condition 1 (reduced operations) effective 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, until further notice.

Ceremony rededicates Belk Plaza as historic campus gathering spot

Belk Plaza has undergone a reimagining to add a monumental water element and a more expansive lawn, but as officials noted in a ceremony Friday, Nov. 16, to rededicate the space, it remains a central gathering location in the historic core of campus.

UNC Board of Governors member visits campus to discuss veterans’ issues

Judge William Webb, chairman of the UNC Board of Governors Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs, came to UNC Charlotte Nov. 12 to learn more about the University’s programs to help its veteran students, groundbreaking research and efforts to hire more veterans.
