UNC Charlotte encompasses more than 1,000 acres and 100-plus buildings, and that’s just the main campus. It takes a lot to keep it functioning well, not to mention beautiful, for the University’s students, employees and visitors. For eight years, Nathaniel “Lee” Snodgrass has made sure it all works together. 

#GivingTuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. UNC Charlotte is celebrating the day by supporting the Jamil Niner Student Pantry on campus to ensure 49er students have the resources they need this holiday season.

The Charlotte 49ers, who rode a five-game win streak to bowl eligibility, have accepted an invitation to compete in the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl in the program’s first-ever bowl appearance.

UNC Charlotte’s entrance to campus off N. Tryon Street is now known as Popp Gate. The Institute Circle egress, which underwent enhancements to mirror Dickson Gate, the University’s main entrance off University City Boulevard, was dedicated Saturday, Nov. 23, in honor of Peggy and Coach Joe Popp, the parents of Karen Popp ’80, a longtime University supporter.

The Office of Emergency Management and the Police and Public Safety Department will conduct a full test of the NinerAlert system from approximately 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 27. All methods of alert notification will be used. This includes text messaging, email, Alertus technology (on-campus screen takeover), LiveSafe and social media. The test message will read: NinerAlert: This is a test of the UNC Charlotte Emergency Alert System. This is only a test.

The University’s Men’s Ice Hockey Club is crowdfunding to pay for travel to and from its competitions along the East Coast. Currently, team members use their own vehicles for travel. 

Saturday was Senior Day, and despite a near-constant rain, the Charlotte 49ers prevailed against Marshall University. The 24-13 victory made for the greatest day in Charlotte 49ers football history as the team reached bowl eligibility for the first time and achieved a school-record six wins.

Charlotte Magazine recently profiled Chancellor Philip L. Dubois as one of its 2019 Charlotteans of the Year.Emma Way, the magazine’s editor, chronicled the chancellor’s 15-year tenure to bring the University and Charlotte closer together.

Senior Neariah Mandisa-Drummond is the 2019 recipient of the John H. Barnhill Civic Trailblazer Award.
