Twelve speakers will deliver presentations at UNC Charlotte’s first-ever live TEDx event scheduled for Friday, March 22, in the Cone University Center.

Three staff members with the UNC Charlotte Office of University Communications (UCOMM) recently won an Emmy Award in the category Community/Public Service Campaign at the 33rd annual Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee.

Carolina Panthers linebacker and national ambassador for Project Life Movement, Luke Kuechly, visited campus recently to encourage UNC Charlotte students to help save lives by joining a stem cell/bone marrow registry.

“The process of registering is incredibly easy, and at the end of the day, it could save someone’s life,” said Kuechly during his campus visit. “Having met previous recipients and their donors in the past, it really shows the powerful connection that someone can have on another person’s life.”

Marina Levina, an associate professor in the Department of Communication and Film at the University of Memphis, will present “Body Disruptions: Biohacking and the Politics of Memory” at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, in Cone University Center, Room 111.

Levina’s current research interests are focused on cultural studies of monstrosity; critical rhetoric of science, medicine and technology; critical surveillance studies; and affect theory. Her most recent publications include an edited collection, “Biocitizenship: The Politics of Bodies, Governance and Power.”

Courtney Green and Andrew Wills are the 2018 recipients of the Lee College of Engineering Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching Awards of Excellence, respectively.

Green, a lecturer and advisor in the Engineering Technology and Construction Management Department (ETCM), joined the University in January 2015. Since then, she has taught nine different undergraduate courses to students from all five academic programs within ETCM, ranging from the freshman to the junior level.

Her teaching philosophy continues to evolve with practice and with experience.

Noted author and scholar Timothy Tyson, winner of the Best Book of 2017 from both the Los Angeles Times and National Public Radio for “The Blood of Emmett Till,” will deliver UNC Charlotte’s 2019 Levine Lecture on Thursday, March 14.

Imdat Ozen, a lecturer in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, will discuss “The Rise of Populism in Europe” as the final speaker of the 2019 Great Decisions Lecture Series. This free, public presentation is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 25, at Charlotte Country Day School.

The Chancellor’s “Fast Five” update provides the campus community a behind-the-scenes glimpse into some of the projects and priorities that occupy the chancellor’s time and attention.

More than 200 people from 33 different colleges and universities across the region recently gathered at UNC Charlotte Center City to learn how to leverage digital classroom technologies for student success.

For some attendees, the second annual Southeastern Digital Learning Forum presented an opportunity to learn more about adaptive learning and how it is having an impact on student learning.
