CCI student team finishes in top 20 of national cybersecurity competition

A student team from the College of Computing and Informatics recently defended an oil pipeline’s control system from a devastating cyberattack. This simulation was part of the Department of Defense Cyberforce Competition, in which teams from 62 colleges and universities vied nationwide.

Tuesday 8 a.m. exams moved to 8 p.m., University in Condition 1 early Tuesday

Exams scheduled for 8 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, have been moved to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11. All other exams will continue as scheduled. The University will move to Condition 1 (C1) reduced operations from 12 a.m. to 8:59 a.m. Tuesday. All University operations will resume at 9 a.m.

December graduate accepted into prestigious Venture for America program

“Actually, it was here that I realized I wanted to be an entrepreneur,” said Miguel Avila during an interview in the 49er Foundry, the student business incubator at UNC Charlotte. Avila, a Belk College of Business senior, will graduate at Fall Commencement.

Recently, he was chosen to join the Venture for America (VFA) Fellowship program after a highly selective process. With more 2,400 applications for the class of 2018, the program extended offers to less than 18 percent, and Avila is the first UNC Charlotte student so honored.

Monday morning exams only rescheduled, Friday commencement pushed to 5 p.m.

The Charlotte area experienced adverse weather Saturday night and into Sunday, but it is expected conditions will improve by midday Monday.
All exams scheduled to begin before 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10, have been moved to Friday, Dec. 14, at the same times and locations. Exams scheduled for 2 p.m. and later on Monday, Dec. 10, will continue as originally scheduled.
The University will remain in Condition 2 (C2) suspended operations until 7:59 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10. The University will move to Condition 1 (C1) reduced operations at 8 a.m., Monday, Dec. 10. Normal operations will resume at noon, Monday, Dec. 10.

University moving to C2 Sunday, No Decision on Monday exams, Commencement

As a result of current weather conditions, the University will be in Condition 2 (C2) suspended operations from 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Dec 9. All scheduled activities are canceled, including the men’s basketball game. Non-mandatory employees must not report to work. NO DECISION HAS BEEN MADE YET ON MONDAY EXAMS OR COMMENCEMENT.

Saturday evening exams rescheduled, University moving to C1 6 p.m., Saturday

As a result of expected adverse winter weather, the University will move to Condition 1 (reduced operations) effective 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, until further notice.

Ogundiran named editor of African Archaeological Review

Akin Ogundiran, a faculty member in the Department of Africana Studies, recently was named editor-in-chief of the African Archaeological Review.

This journal, published by Springer, focuses on authoritative articles on African archaeology, highlighting the outstanding contributions of this region’s past as they relate to key global issues. Important topics include the emergence of modern humans, earliest manifestations of human culture and the origins of African plant and animal domesticates.
