Classes to resume Tuesday, University will be in C1 status
UNC Charlotte will move to Condition 1 (reduced operations) effective from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, for employees. Offices are expected to be open, with at least minimal operations, and employees are expected to report to work as assigned if they are able
UNC Charlotte extends Condition 2 status, cancels classes on Sept. 17
As a result of expected effects of Tropical Storm Florence, UNC Charlotte will remain in Condition 2 (suspended operations) from 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16, through 11:59 p.m., Monday, Sept. 17.
UNC Charlotte to host second Kids Fest
Professor Jamie Brandon and the School of Nursing have a broad range of interactive activities planned for everyone attending Charlotte Kids Fest on Saturday, Sept. 22.
Construction Internship and Career Fair scheduled
The Lee College of Engineering’s Department of Engineering Technology and Construction Management will host a Construction Internship and Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons.
The fair is held each fall for students and employers in and around the construction industry to network and explore career options. The students are predominately construction management and civil engineering technology majors, but the event is open to all students in the Lee College and UNC Charlotte.
University extends Condition 2 status until 5 p.m., Sunday
UNC Charlotte will remain in Condition 2 (suspended operations) through 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16, with all weekend classes canceled.

The Charlotte 49ers’s Conference USA football opener vs. Old Dominion has been moved to 4 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, due to forecasted weekend weather conditions related to Hurricane Florence.
Visiting trumpet professor to perform Faculty & Friends Concert
Visiting trumpet professor Eric Millard will perform a Department of Music Faculty & Friends Concert at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 25, in Rowe Recital Hall.
Faculty Dance Concert to showcase multiple choreographic styles
The Department of Dance will present a Faculty Dance Concert on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28-29, in the Anne R. Belk Theater in Robinson Hall. The program features five works by faculty choreographers and includes faculty and guest performers.
Where will students take their self(ie) next?
UNC Charlotte’s annual Study Abroad Fair is an opportunity for students to learn more about where they can study or intern abroad.
This year’s fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the food court of the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.
Students will be able to speak with staff members from the Office of Education Abroad to learn how to start the study abroad process as well as connect with UNC Charlotte study abroad alumni.
UNC Press publishing professor’s ‘The People of the River’
Oscar de la Torre, associate professor of Africana Studies, will have his first book, “The People of the River: Nature and Identity in Black Amazonia, 1835-1945” published by UNC Press; it is scheduled for release in October.
This work is a social and environmental history of the Africa-descended people in Brazil’s Amazonian forest. It is a story of the difficult journey from slavery to peasantry, and how Black Amazonians used the environment to forge new overlapping identities as citizens, black and indigenous in the post-emancipation years.
