Three parking lots to close temporarily starting Dec. 15
Due to a storm drain relocation project, Parking Lots 25 and 26 and North Deck will be closed from Monday, Dec. 15, through Tuesday, Dec. 23.
All vehicles must be moved prior to Dec. 15 as there will be no access to these lots during their closure (click to see the map). Students who leave their cars on campus during winter break are encouraged to use the Union Deck.

December offerings from extended academic programs
The Office of Extended Academic Programs offers numerous training opportunities. Discounts of approximately 50 percent are available for UNC Charlotte faculty and staff. For more information, call 704-687-8900 or email ceregistration@uncc.edu. Unless otherwise noted, courses/workshops are held at UNC Charlotte Center City.

South Village Crossing to open in January
South Village Crossing, the new 56,146-square-foot dining and gathering facility nestled between Moore and Scott residence halls, is scheduled to serve its first meals Tuesday, Jan. 6.
“Our students, faculty, staff and guests will be impressed with the tasteful design, culinary innovation and warm, welcoming atmosphere,” said Ana Alvarez, director of auxiliary services. “We expect this building to solidify the sense of community at South Village and attract and delight students and staff from all over campus.”

UNC Charlotte begins construction on marching band building
After a successful groundbreaking ceremony that included the announcement of a $2 million gift to the UNC Charlotte’s new marching band, the University has officially begun construction on the Vickie and Gene Johnson Marching Band Center.

Joint research program expands funding levels
UNC Charlotte’s Graduate School and State of São Paulo Research Foundation continue to offer faculty members opportunities to form research partnerships. The budget limit is now $20,000 from each party in the SPRINT program (São Paulo Researchers in International Collaboration).

University’s Ethics Bowl Team places second at regional tournament
A UNC Charlotte team recently finished second in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Ethics Bowl Tournament and will advance to the National Ethics Bowl Tournament.
The Ethics Bowl is a student competition in which participants must work toward identifying and advocating the best ethical resolution to real-life dilemmas in a timed panel discussion.

Students participate in Habitat projects
This fall, UNC Charlotte students took part in several efforts to benefit Habitat for Humanity, including the second on-campus homecoming build by the UNC Charlotte Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
Shortly after the Homecoming football game, the chapter house was moved to its permanent location in Arvin Meadows, a neighborhood off Statesville Road.
According to an article in the Charlotte Observer, the homeowner is Peggy McMullen, 55.

University to observe #GivingTuesday Dec. 2
UNC Charlotte will join the national #GivingTuesday movement to encourage the 49er community to give back during this holiday season. #GivingTuesday is an effort to harness the collective power to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.

University formally dedicates Martin Hall, former governor talks ‘Intersection of Science and Religion’
At UNC Charlotte, buildings are named for people who have dedicated their lives to the betterment of the state, and former Gov. Jim Martin qualifies, said UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip L. Dubois at a dedication ceremony for Martin Hall Thursday, Nov. 20.
