Men hold nearly all primary breadwinning positions in top income households, and the glass ceiling that has hindered women’s advancement in the workplace is more extensive than previously thought, a new study by UNC Charlotte researcher Jill Yavorsky and colleagues finds.

The search committee for the position of vice chancellor for research and economic development has selected three finalists: Pradeep Haldar, Kelly Rusch and Richard Tankersley.

Members of the campus community are invited to attend candidate presentations, which will be in February.

Rusch, executive director, North Dakota EPSCoR, and professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, North Dakota State University, will present at 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Steven Rogelberg is used to being in front of large groups of people to talk about his research on meetings. But recently, he had the chance to reach perhaps his largest audience yet as a guest on CBS This Morning.

Ventureprise is accepting applications from UNC Charlotte students, faculty and staff for the spring 2019 NSF I-Corps cohort.  The program, funded by the National Science Foundation, helps participants bridge academic and entrepreneurial knowledge.

Erin Vinoski Thomas, a fourth year Ph.D. candidate in the UNC Charlotte Department of Public Health Sciences, received the National Association of County and City Health Departments’ (NACCHO) 2018-19 Health and Disability Fellowship.

Tanure Ojaide, the Frank Graham Porter Professor of Africana Studies, is co-recipient of the 2018 Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa.

The economy of the United States and North Carolina continues to accelerate and could be headed into the longest economic expansion on record within the next six months, UNC Charlotte professor and economist John Connaughton said.

UNC Charlotte has received a $750,000 grant to help attract and support military veterans in earning graduate degrees in STEM disciplines, with particular emphasis on advanced degrees in mechanical engineering.

In partnership with the Levine Museum of the New South, Assistant Professor of Urban Design Ming-Chun Lee and UNC Charlotte students will help Charlotte residents discover the stories behind the rise and fall of Eastland Mall and its surrounding neighborhood at an event on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The event, “Being a Historian for a Day,” will take place at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Hickory Grove Branch, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
