Homecoming festivities to welcome 49ers fans, includes parade
The Charlotte 49ers inaugural football season is underway, and Niner spirit is at an all-time high leading up to celebrations and activities planned for the Oct. 12 Homecoming game against UNC Pembroke.
Homecoming organizers note now is a great time to catch green-and-white fever and join other fans and friends to commemorate this historic occasion in the life of the University and establish new campus and community traditions throughout the week, including the first campus Homecoming Lights Parade and Pep Rally as well as a comedy show, community service project, alumni-focused events and student activities.
The inaugural football Homecoming Lights Parade and Pep Rally will begin at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11. Starting from east campus, student organizations, faculty and staff, alumni and community groups will light up the streets with floats, banners and spirit attire as the parade travels to the Student Union on Craver Road.
A pep rally in front of Student Union will immediately follow the parade. It will feature special performances from spirit groups, food from local restaurants, music, giveaways, and more. An awards ceremony will recognize parade categories for the best float, vehicle, walking unit, and community entry.
UNC Charlotte and the Habitat for Humanity campus chapter are sponsoring a Homecoming Build to provide a deserving family a homecoming of its own. The on-campus build runs through Oct. 11. To volunteer or donate, visit UNC Charlotte Habitat for Humanity.
The Alumni Association has a variety of events planned for alumni and guests, including a golf tournament, a game-day Alumni Tailgate Tent and the Homecoming 2013 Family Fun Fest starting at 6 p.m. at the N.C. Music Factory after the game on Oct. 12. For more events and information, visit the Alumni Association.
