Veteran student wins national scholarship

Adam Dignan, an adult student and Marine Corps veteran, recently received a $3,600 scholarship from the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society, the leading honor society for adult students in the United States.Dignan, a senior biology major, transferred to UNC Charlotte from Coastal Carolina Community College. He selected UNC Charlotte to continue his studies as he related to the school’s origins, being established to serve the educational needs of veterans.

Visualizing the COVID-19 pandemic

As the United States battles a drastic resurgence in coronavirus cases, a group of UNC Charlotte researchers aggregated, analyzed and visualized publicly available COVID-19 data to produce an interactive dashboard in order to better understand the rapid spread of the virus.

Book club to discuss ‘Me and White Supremacy’

The UNC Charlotte Career Center will host CLT Net from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 29. This virtual event will gather recruiters, students, professionals and community members from around the Charlotte area for an evening of networking, recruiting and learning.

This fall, UNC Charlotte will welcome new classes of scholars from its most prestigious scholarship programs funded through the generous donations of dedicated alumni.Five students make up the second class of Johnson Scholars. Gene ’73 and Vickie ’71 and ’82 Johnson established the Johnson Scholars program to increase opportunities at UNC Charlotte for students from middle income families who do not qualify for federal grant programs.

New mentor program to focus on Increasing undeclared student persistence and progression

UNC Charlotte’s Office of Undergraduate Education, this fall, will implement a new program aimed to increase student retention and sense of belonging. Undeclared undergraduate students at UNC Charlotte will be invited to be matched with an upper-division student through UNC Charlotte’s Niners Mentor Collective, a mentorship program that supports new students’ persistence and social adjustment.
