Learn about BRIDGES leadership program for women

The BRIDGES Academic Leadership Program offers UNC Charlotte female faculty and staff members the opportunity to develop and strengthen their leadership skills, knowledge and networking to be successful change agents in their communities.

To learn more about this unique leadership program and hear from past participants, attend the BRIDGES information session scheduled for 2 to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the Cone University Center, Room 208.

One Dalton Tower stairwell to be closed temporarily

Stairwell no. 3 that provides access to the Atkins Library’s Dalton Tower will be closed Monday, Feb. 11, through Friday, Feb. 15. This temporary closure is to install a new HVAC unit as part of the Atkins Library Special Collections project.

Signage will direct patrons to use Stairwell no. 4.

Finalists for vice chancellor for research and economic development to give presentations

The search committee for the position of vice chancellor for research and economic development has selected three finalists: Pradeep Haldar, Kelly Rusch and Richard Tankersley.

Members of the campus community are invited to attend candidate presentations, which will be in February.

Rusch, executive director, North Dakota EPSCoR, and professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, North Dakota State University, will present at 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Finalists for vice chancellor for research and economic development to give presentations

Taylor needs shared leave

Brittanae Taylor, Office of Disability Services, needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through Feb. 8.

To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements and participant forms in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or in the literature racks outside of the Benefits Office, King Building, Room 207. State Department official to talk about nation’s opioid crisis

James Walsh from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs will present “The National Opioid Crisis” at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center, Salon D.

Walsh was appointed the bureau’s principal deputy assistant secretary in September 2018. In his UNC Charlotte talk, he will address the global dimensions and international implications of the opioid crisis and the drug trade.

Series to explore the Civil War ‘Beyond the Myths’

A series of programs scheduled in February and March will look at the impact of the Civil War on North Carolina, and how the state’s role in the Confederacy plays out today in the ongoing tensions surrounding the monuments of that war.

Proposals being accepted for Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund

The Council on University Community is accepting proposals for the Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund, which supports initiatives that promote the daily value of diversity in the intellectual life of the campus. Faculty, staff or students are eligible to apply for awards of up to $5,000.

Graduate School accepting nominees for Reynolds Leadership Award

The Thomas L. Reynolds Leadership Award will be bestowed for the first time this spring; the award will honor excellence in graduate program administration and will be presented annually to a graduate program director (GPD) or graduate program coordinator (GPC). Recipients will be selected by a committee of graduate faculty and students. The award recipient will receive $1,000 and an engraved plaque and will have his or her name engraved on a perpetual trophy.
