Faces – Elizabeth Lorenz
After a decade at Northern Kentucky University, Beth Lorenz decided to seek a new professional opportunity. The search led her to UNC Charlotte’s Office of Education Abroad, where she serves as assistant director.
It’s been about 15 months since Lorenz’s arrival in the Queen City, and she continues to explore her new home.
Academic success and advising a one-stop shop in Colvard Building
Students who returned from spring break and needed advising or tutoring assistance discovered they could turn to a one-stop location on the 2000 level of the Colvard Building. The offices of Multicultural Academic Services, University Center for Academic Excellence, University Advising Center and University College now reside together in 24,000 square feet of renovated space.
OASES marks 20 years of serving adult learners
March is a time to celebrate University milestones. Earlier this month, UNC Charlotte observed its 50th anniversary in the UNC system. This week, marks the 20th year of the Office of Adult Students and Evening Services (OASES).
Janet Daniel, founding director of the office, stated OASES’s existence resulted from the vision of then-Provost Philip L. Dubois.
‘KEEPING WATCH on WATER’ topic of March 19 ‘Live Wire’
Crista Cammaroto, director of galleries in the College of Arts + Architecture, and Mary Newsom, associate director, urban and regional affairs in the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute, will be guests on the March 19 edition of “The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast.
Book examines schools’ resegregation in political, economic context
A new book from UNC Charlotte educators and researchers examines the desegregation and resegregation of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools during the past 40 years, putting education reform in a political and economic context.
“Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: School Desegregation and Resegregation in Charlotte,” is edited by Roslyn Mickelson, a UNC Charlotte professor; Stephen Samuel Smith, a Winthrop University professor; and Amy Hawn Nelson, director of research for the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute and director of the Institute for Social Capital Inc.
Moore named dean of Atkins Library
Anne Cooper Moore has been named dean of the J. Murrey Atkins Library, beginning June 8. Moore will join UNC Charlotte from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) where she has served as dean of library affairs since 2012. She has 27 years of experience as a leader in academic libraries.
Erevelles, King to guest on March 12 ‘Live Wire’
Sunil Erevelles, chair of the Marketing Department in the Belk College of Business, and Dolly King, chair of the Department of Finance and the Rush Dickson Professor of Finance in the Belk College of Business, will be the guests on the March 12 edition of “The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast. Erevelles will discuss the Marketing Department and an executive education session in March on innovation.
Andrews joins Charlotte Research Institute
Clay Andrews is the assistant director for corporate partnerships at the Charlotte Research Institute; he joined the University March 2.
Estate planning brown bag scheduled
The UNC Charlotte Continuing Education Office is sponsoring “Estate Planning: Getting Your House in Order” from noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, March 19, at UNC Charlotte Center City. Part of the office’s Brown Bag Series, this event is free, but advanced registration is required.
Commencement Fair set for March 17-19
Barnes & Noble at UNC Charlotte, located in the Student Union, will host the Commencement Fair from Tuesday, March 17, through Thursday, March 19.
Between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., seniors who graduate in May will have the chance to pick up their caps and gowns, obtain tickets for commencement and shop for commencement-related items and alumni merchandise.
