Halton Arena ranked among top venues by industry publication
Stadium Journey Magazine recently ranked UNC Charlotte’s Halton Arena No. 22 out of 351 venues for collegiate teams in Division 1 basketball.
According to Stadium Journey Magazine, Halton Arena “makes for an interesting and unique atmosphere for home games and is a great addition to a school with a plethora of beautiful athletic facilities.”
The Dale F. Halton Arena is a 9,000-seat venue located inside the Barnhardt Student Activity Center. It is home to the Charlotte 49ers men’s and women’s basketball teams and women’s volleyball.
Charlotte 49ers holding faculty/staff nights
UNC Charlotte employees can take advantage of faculty/staff nights to watch upcoming contests in volleyball and soccer for free. Employees can get up to four free tickets; visit the Athletic Ticket Office outside the Barnhardt Student Activity Center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a valid UNC Charlotte ID to pick up tickets.
Faculty/staff night for volleyball against UAB is Friday, Sept. 26; for women’s soccer against Marshall, it is Friday, Oct. 3; and for men’s soccer against Louisiana Tech, it is Friday, Oct. 24.
Participate in Homecoming festivities, parade
The UNC Charlotte Homecoming Committee is extending a special invitation to faculty and staff to participate in its second football Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally to be held on Friday, Oct. 24. Any campus department or group that would like to walk, drive or float in the parade should register online at the Homecoming website by Friday, Sept. 26.
NinerTech partnering with Charlotte 49ers on ’49th Minute’ promotion
NinerTech and the Charlotte 49ers are teaming up for a prize giveaway dubbed the “49th Minute Score.” UNC Charlotte students, faculty and staff can enter at NinerTech, located in the Student Union, for the chance to win a prize package and iPad mini during the 49ers men’s and women’s soccer season.
All names are entered into a drawing for the game-day giveaways. At every Charlotte 49ers men’s and womens’s soccer game, one lucky winner will receive a NinerTech prize package.
CATS routes for home football games
The first home football game is against Johnson C. Smith Saturday, and the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) provides service to reach campus for the contest.
Route 11U North Tryon runs from the Charlotte Transportation Center in Uptown Charlotte to campus every 30 minutes starting at 6 a.m.; CATS also offers service along Sharon Amity and W.T. Harris on Route 29 every 45 minutes starting at 8:10 a.m.
The fare to ride the bus is $2.20 each way; exact change or a bus pass is required. Buses do not take debit/credit cards.
49ers quarterback nominated for community service honor
Charlotte 49ers red-shirt quarterback Matt Johnson is among the nominees for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, considered one of the most coveted and prestigious off-the-field honors in college football.
The award recognizes players whose charitable involvement and community service contributions stand out among all other student-athletes participating in the sport. Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced a record-breaking 182 nominees from across the country.
Joining the Charlotte 49ers Athletic Foundation
The Charlotte 49ers Athletic Foundation provides scholarships for more than 400 student-athletes in 17 varsity sports. Membership benefits include basketball parking and halftime hospitality for season ticket holders and a Charlotte 49ers calendar; the contribution is tax deductible, too.

Charlotte 49ers football – season two begins Thursday
The second season of Charlotte 49ers football starts Thursday, Aug. 28, with an away game against the Campbell University Camels; Charlotte’s opening home game is Saturday, Sept. 6, against Johnson C. Smith University.
Sixteen starters are among the 53 returning letter winners, including starting quarterback Matt Johnson and leading rusher Kalif Phillips.
Hunter named graduate assistant coach
Mikel Hunter was named a graduate assistant coach for the Charlotte 49ers 2014 football season.
ASN to air two home football games, WCCB Charlotte returns as local broadcast partner
Conference USA announced Wednesday that a new television partner, Sinclair Broadcast Group, will produce and distribute more than 100 events during the next two years. Those games will be part of the newly launched American Sports Network (ASN). A pair of UNC Charlotte home games will be among those aired on ASN – the Sept. 6 contest against Johnson C. Smith and the Nov. 15 one versus Wesley College. Both games kick off at noon.
