‘A-Cone-A-Fair’ returns to honor 50th anniversary of Cone University Center

Recast as an open house, “A-Cone-A-Fair” makes a special return from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6, throughout the Cone University Center to commemorate the building’s 50th anniversary.  The event will highlight Cone Center’s history of student dedication, featuring historical exhibits and displays alongside the current student services that reside in the building.

Michael Lizotte is the University sustainability officer, which is part of the Facilities Management Department in the Division for Business Affairs.

Ken Smith is a numbers guy, and virtually every day, he’s inundated with data, figures and spreadsheets.
In his role as the assistant University budget director, Smith works primarily with UNC Charlotte’s General Fund Budget, comprised of state appropriations and tuition and fees. For the 2013-14 fiscal year, it totals around $330 million.

Annual fall Campus Cleanup scheduled

The Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling will coordinate a campus-wide cleanup from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31, in conjunction with Campus Sustainability Week. In addition, there will be a fall tree planting.
 
The Student Government Association and EARTH Club are organizing student volunteers, and Chancellor Philip L. Dubois has authorized 90 minutes of release time for all faculty and staff members who are interested in volunteering in this effort. Participation must be approved by supervisors based upon the office/department/unit needs.

Bistro 49 to host ‘Homegrown Dinner’

The “Homegrown Dinner” at Bistro 49 is expected to be among the fall semester’s most delicious events. Scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 8, the four-course meal will feature seasonal local meats, cheeses and produced prepared by campus chefs.
Seating is limited for this event, which costs $20 per person; for individuals 21 and older, it is “bring your own wine” (with proof of age).
To reserve a spot, stop by Bistro 49 by Monday, Oct. 7.

Subway to celebrate University location

On Wednesday, Oct. 2, the Cone University Center’s Main Street Market will be the place for a “Grand Day of Freshness.” Subway began serving its famous sandwiches at the start of the fall semester, but at 10 a.m., Oct. 2, there will be a “Niner Nation Sub Cutting.” Any six-inch “Fresh Value Meal” will be $2 all day (offer not valid at other Subway locations). Limit one per customer.

MEDIC, EH&S partnering to offer CPR training on campus

More Americans die annually from sudden cardiac arrest than breast and lung cancer, stroke and AIDS combined. Increasing bystander medical awareness and training to aid individuals who experience sudden cardiac arrest is the impetus for the Lucky Hearts Campaign.

University receives Good Faith Effort Award

The state Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB) recently presented UNC Charlotte with one of six Good Faith Effort Awards at the 32nd annual State Construction Conference held in Raleigh.
The University received the honor in the category of Public Sector Owner/Agency in recognition of the UNC Charlotte’s campus-wide commitment to the state’s HUB program and utilization of HUB firms.
