The Chancellor’s “Fast Five” update provides the campus community a behind-the-scenes glimpse into some of the projects and priorities that occupy the chancellor’s time and attention.

UNC Charlotte conferred degrees upon 4,565 candidates in three ceremonies Friday and Saturday, May 11-12. Retired superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Ann Clark received an honorary Doctor of Public Service at the 10 a.m., Saturday, event; read about other inspirational graduation moments that were captured during Commencement.

On Monday, April 30, UNC Charlotte and its nonprofit partners presented the inaugural Charlotte Opportunity Showcase that featured presentations, performances and exhibits by individuals and groups addressing the key factors and recommendations in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Opportunity Task Force’s “Leading on Opportunity” report.

Faculty and staff members can join colleagues for socializing and networking at a Faculty and Staff Social, which will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Thursday, April 12, at Harris Alumni Center at Johnson Glen.

Sponsored by Chancellor Philip L. Dubois, the social will feature light hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer and soft drinks. RSVPs requested.

A key component of UNC Charlotte’s institutional mission is to promote a robust intellectual environment that values social and cultural diversity, free expression, collegiality, integrity and mutual respect.

The Council on University Community is accepting proposals for the Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund, which supports initiatives that promote the daily value of diversity in the intellectual life of the campus. Faculty, staff or students are eligible to apply for awards of up to $5,000.

Stephen Snipes, assistant director for technical services for the Student Union, Activities and Recreation Department (SUAR), was the top chef at the 2018 Staff Council Chili Cook-off and Cornbread competition.

His chili recipe claimed first prize and was named the fan favorite by popular vote of those who attended the event.

UNC Charlotte is participating in a UNC System-wide Employee Engagement Survey, which launched Monday, Jan. 29. All permanent employees at the University should receive the survey from “ModernThink” via email and are encouraged to participate.

UNC Charlotte recently received its 2017 audited financial report from the Office of the State Auditor. The report again showed no findings related to what University officials reported, which indicates the strength of UNC Charlotte’s financial position and its internal controls.
