Meet Sarah Smyre

Since the days of riding her bicycle to campus and attending basketball games as a child, Capt. Sarah Smyre ’03, ’07 has been carrying the seeds planted by UNC Charlotte in her heart. Years later, those seeds would grow her desire to become an undergraduate and graduate student. And today, these experiences have blossomed into the Niner pride seen in her devotion to the University’s Police and Public Safety Department. Capt. Lape named interim associate vice chancellor for business services

Doug Lape, director of parking and transportation services, has been appointed interim associate vice chancellor for business services effective Thursday, Sept. 1. This will be an interim assignment to ensure stability during leadership transition. The University anticipates a subsequent recruitment for the associate vice chancellor for business services position in the beginning of the 2023 calendar year.

Charlotte branding update

“Thanks are due to the entire campus for the incredible work supporting the updated branding this past academic year. From students to the broader community, we’ve received positive feedback and our logo is increasingly prominent and visible. As we continue to strengthen the University’s profile, having this strong and cohesive identity will help further build brand equity,” said Beth Crigler, interim vice chancellor for the Division of University Advancement.

Hernandez needs shared leave

Patrick Hernandez, Building Environmental Services, needs vacation leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through Aug. 17.

To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or complete the online Voluntary Shared Leave Donation Form from the HR Benefits Forms website.

HR implements changes to Student Employment Policy

On-campus student employment provides opportunities for UNC Charlotte students to develop essential skills and real-world work experiences necessary to facilitate a smooth transition to the post-graduate workforce, earn income to offset the costs of student life and support daily operations of the University. Eligibility for campus student employment is determined by a student’s current enrollment status.  

HR update on legislative pay increases and the North Carolina state budget

Dear Colleagues,

As you may have already seen in the news this week, the budget recently passed by the North Carolina General Assembly has been signed by Gov. Roy Cooper. 

University rescinds policies 501.2, 503 and 403

University Policy 501.2 has been rescinded because its substance is now captured in University Policy 501, Nondiscrimination.

University Policy 503 is rescinded because based on court cases, fighting words harassment as an exception to free speech protection has been significantly curtailed if not eliminated.
