New student tab in My UNC Charlotte

Effective Jan. 3, there is a new student tab in My UNC Charlotte. This more personalized tab compiles data from Banner, Canvas and Gmail onto one screen, which means fewer clicks for students to view information.

To see this new tab, go to my.charlotte.edu and click “Student-New.” This dashboard view includes:

Youngstown’s Shane Montgomery joins 49ers football coaching staff

Youngstown State offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Shane Montgomery has been named to the same positions with the Charlotte 49ers. Montgomery has coached for more than 20 years, including four years as head coach at Miami (Ohio), where he coached all-America and future Super Bowl champion quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Call for faculty-submitted research projects

Faculty members are encouraged to participate in the 2018 Charlotte Research Scholars program (CRS). The program, sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs, the Charlotte Research Institute, the Duke Endowment Special Initiatives Fund and the Graduate School, provides funding to approximately 50 UNC Charlotte students to participate in a mentored, 10-week summer research experience.

Education professor named Diversity Faculty Fellow

Chance Lewis, the Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professor of Urban Education in the Department of Middle, Secondary and K-12 Education and executive director of UNC Charlotte’s Urban Education Collaborative, has been named the first Diversity Faculty Fellow. He is an internationally recognized leader in the field of urban education and issues related to diversity, inclusion and access.

Phillips Road closure scheduled

Phillips Road in front of Duke Hall will be closed temporarily from Friday, Dec. 22, through Tuesday, Dec. 26, to install a waterline.

Expect barricades, construction personnel and equipment in the area; a detour will be through Parking Lot 23.

Huntley needs shared leave

Henry Huntley, Building Environmental Services (housekeeping), needs shared leave donations.

To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements and participant forms in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or in the literature racks outside of the Benefits Office, King Building, Room 207. Temporary closure of Cone Lane

From 8 a.m. to noon, Monday, Dec. 18, the north end of Cone Lane and the east entrance to Cone Deck 2 will be closed temporarily to remove and replace the Cone Center cooling tower.

The Cone Deck visitor parking will be open; gate access to the Cone Decks will be via the west entrance near Belk Gym.

Temporary closure of Union Lane scheduled

One lane along Union Lane will be closed from Monday, Dec. 18, through Saturday, Jan. 6, to install underground utilities that cross the roadway as part of the Union Deck Expansion Project.

Flag personnel will allow one lane of traffic at a time. Steel plates will cover the road cut nightly.

Expect construction personnel and equipment in the area and possible delays in getting into or out of the fourth-level entry of the Union Parking Deck.

Exercise caution when approaching construction zones.

Part of Cameron Boulevard to close temporarily

The eastbound land of Cameron Boulevard between Poplar Lane and Wallis Hall will be closed from Monday, Dec. 18, through Sunday, Dec. 24, to complete installation of new crosswalks and curbs for the bus pull-off.

Barricades and detour signs will be in place. Exercise caution when approaching construction areas.

ITS schedules brief outages of systems

Due to a planned building router software upgrade, several buildings, residential halls and parking lots will briefly (5-10 min.) lose access to all systems between 5 and 5:30 a.m. either Dec. 19, 20 or 21. This includes computers, phones, wired/wireless and the internet.

To minimize any inconvenience, the upgrades are scheduled well before normal working hours.  The daily schedule is listed below. (Buildings not listed won’t be affected by the outage.)
